View Full Version : Mysty is a miserable chick (some bodily issues and whining)

I know there are no doctors in the house, and I don't expect some glorious moment of diagnosis from anyone. And I have no immediate plans to see a doctor unless things get really unbearable, because the money just isn't there because my gloriously responsible father just up and quit his second job in four months without finding another one first. If I wind up in the emergency room in a couple weeks, eh, so be it. I just need to bitch and whine and collect a little sympathy to help me through the day, :D. Let's go through the checklist of what's wrong with me at this moment in time.
1. Haven't had a period since October. There is zero chance of my being pregnant, though if I am, it's either the Antichrist virgin birth or Kusanagi has figured out how to impregnate someone through AIM. (Though the two may not be mutually exclusive ) It's not unheard of for me to skip periods once in a while, but I've gone three months at this point and nothing.
2. I've been having some wonderful gastrointestinal issues, including gagging on my food, morning sickness (not pregnant), and stomach cramps. Also, my acid reflux has developed superpowers, as last night, I was up until about 4:30 in the morning drooling what felt like pure stomach acid into the toilet bowl. It took six freaking Zantac to finally calm things down to the point that I could even attempt to lay down, let alone sleep. I'm hoping a round of Prilosec will settle this down.
3. As a result of all this acid, I've had to brush and Listerine my mouth so often that my gums are starting to bleed. Not an unbearable pain in and of itself, but when taken with everything else, a pretty heavy straw on the camel's back.
4. Did I mention while I was enjoying this night of pure bliss, it was about 20 degrees in the house, and I, being a little southerner, was shivering so hard that I was cracking my neck, and had to go and curl up around the fireplace a few times to get warm again because I couldn't lay down under my blankets to get warm because HEY, laying down made me vomit, oh yeah, MORE ACID. That didn't help at ALL because being too cold upsets my stomach, too. At least this weekend will be warmer weather so this should quit being an issue.
5. Discovered at work this morning, there's some pretty definite weakness to the muscles today, as I spent two hours trying to carry a couple month's worth of newspapers approximately ten yards, and finally had to stop from sheer exhaustion. Now my back, neck, legs, and arms feel like I've finished a two-hour workout without a nice hot shower afterwards to relax. I'm walking like an arthritic old lady.
6. Anyway, I had to work today, and I would have felt like a total chode if I called out today since I've got the next three days off, and today is the other clerk's only day off this week. So even though I couldn't get to sleep until 5, and had to be awake again at 6:30 to come into work at 8, here I am. At least my boss is being really sweet and letting me catch little 15-minute breaks here and there to go lay down on our sofa and try to get some energy back. And after this, hopefully, I can go home and rest this weekend and try to get a few of these issues sorted out.
Ah well, in every life some rain must fall, am I right? It's probably all just stress and if I take three days to just veg out and relax, I should be fine. Still, if anyone could spare a little petting, I will definitely take it. *eye bat*

Doctor. Now.
If you were about ten-years-old, I would have suspected something like an imperforate hymen, since that knackers your body and has the same effect on menstruation. However, it sounds like there's something far more serious going on.

Are you undereating? All those issues can be due to anorexia. A friend of mine in high school underate without even knowing it because she was such a health fanatic- never had lunch at school because the foods were too unhealthy, only really ate veggies. Have you swapped spit (including in drinks) with strangers lately? It also sounds like possibly mono.
ETA: Ob-Gyn, now. If you have a Planned Parenthood near you, see if they do free/cheap ob-gyn visits. Contrary to popular belief they do have real doctors and they do more than give you birth control and such.

I'm with everybody else. Go see a doctor.

Doctor. Right Now. My period stopped last year in September. No, I was not pregnant, but I figured it was due to my digestive disorder. Turns out it was due to some sort of reeeally bad infection. Took a long time for it to settle down. Period didn't start up again until last month.

You will be better off getting it fixed now before something less/non fixable happens. It sounds like it's very serious and you can do further harm to yourself by waiting. Please see a doctor right away like everyone said. My hospital will let you set up payments and not have to pay for everything upfront. I hope you're feeling better soon and that everything gets cleared up. Please don't wait till you have to go to the emergency room.

Toxic Shock Syndrome - very potentially that. If your body isn't getting rid of the endometrium, you will build up stuff that should not be inside you. TSS was a major worry for tampon users a few years back over here. Several of those symptoms match.

I agree wholeheartedly with Raps. At the the *very* least, all that acid is damaging your stomach lining and eosophagus. The menstrual problems aside, you need to do something. I have a hiatus hernia in my stomach, so I'm no stranger to reflux and over-abundant acid. You have to take care of yourself *hug*
Mysty, babe......you say you won't go to the doc until it gets unbearable?!
Wouldn't you consider what's going on right NOW as unbearable? Hell, if I had acid reflux that lasted more than a couple days, if I were vomitting and not getting a period (well I don't because of BC but if I weren't on it, you know what I mean) for several months, I'd be at the doc right NOW!
It is not normal for a girl who is not sexually active or on birth control to skip so many periods. Something IS wrong with you. I hate to break it to you, babe, you know we all love you dearly, but something is not functioning correctly.
You. Need. To. Go. NOW!
I swear, if you don't go, I have all weekend off, I will come find you and take you there myself..........girl problems are SERIOUS! Take it from someone who comes from a family of generations of female problem after female problem......putting it off does NO GOOD! NONE!

Well, my coworkers have somehow caught wind of what's going on, and basically were threatening to make the appointment themselves if I didn't, so I have the phone number for a local health unit that is going to do a pap, I suppose. Though I've never had one and have no idea what to expect and am scared absolutely shitless, I guess I'll be going Monday if they have a spot open.
So far as the acid, like I said, a round of Prilosec SHOULD fix that up. Admittedly, last night was about as brutal as it's ever been, but I've had attacks about as bad that the purple pill was able to fix up. If it doesn't, though, then I'll speak to someone else about it.
One of the editors actually wrote me a personal check for $100 and pushed it into my hand to use for medical bills, and said she'd only let me pay her back if I used it for the doctor. So, now I need to go so that she'll take back the money I owe her.
I have to say that this thing where people care if I live or die is altogether new and different. I've never had a workplace like that before and very few friends of that sort. It's a little odd and rather embarassing, to a degree, but I have to say, it's nice. Thanks, you guys. :)

Due to the readers of this site being a wide mix . . . I am sending a PM with what to expect at the Doc for a Pap.
Nothing wrong with discussing . . .just for personal preferance didn't think some of the readers would want to be subjected to the details.
A Pap smear is no big deal at all. If you are like me and are scared of male gynos, make sure you ask for a woman, they aren't always psychic. I've had lots of them. There's no real pain involved, just a moment or two of discomfort. Since you are not sexually active, you will not be given any patronizing or have to have any STD tests, which should cut your appointment time down immensely.
EDIT: Mysty will be sent a PM from Emrld and my description of a Pap was too gross.

Mysty: Good thing you are going to the doctor. Wife 1 had similar problems and wound up with an endometrial ablation as her uterine wall was wonky. No I dont know the proper medical terms for all that female plumbing issues. But the description you gave sounded very not good.

Good that you are going to the Doctor.
The symptoms you are describing are for PLETHORIA of problems, both easy to treat and hard. The biggest thing is early treatment. Being physically strong should help you in the long run.
Good luck.

Ah, we're all big boys and girls around here... :)
The period issue could be as simple as being under a lot of stress (physical, mental, or both) but it's best to get it checked out, especially if you are usually regular. So, in case no one's said it ;), good for you for going to the doc. You should mention all your symptoms to whoever you see; even if it's a gynecologist they should know everything that is going on. (Besides, part of the exam involves pressing on your belly (don't worry, it doesn't hurt) and you don't wanna :puke: on 'em....) The period thing may or may not be related to the other stuff (or may be a side effect of the other stuff), so the doc should hear the whole story.

Mysty:
Just print out what you typed up for us. Instead of writing it all down and taking it to the doctor. That will help, you won't freeze up when doc asks you "So how do you feel?"
Please. If you don't go to the doctor, I'll fly down, pick you up, throw you in the back of my rental car and haul your ass to the ER.
Plumbing not working every month - meh, as long as you mention to doctor at YEARLY CHECKUP.
Tummy being sour? Bad.
Puking guts out? Bad.
Feeling like you've been hit by semi? VERY BAD.
For now- Baking soda and water - make a solution, drink it. Don't hope for taste but it will change Ph in your stomach to stop the burn so much.
Apple juice and applesauce can also help.
I have gallstones and it can give me sour stomach, pukeys, bad indigestion...but I'm not your doctor.
GET YOUR ASS TO THE DOCTOR TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lets see....cost for a dr visit might be around 100 dollars.......cost for an er starts at 1000 dollars...........
it is better on your body and better on your wallet to be seen now and not have to be run to the ER.

I respectfully beg to differ. Granted, it depends on where you go and what-all is done, but believe me: doctor visits, no matter how major or minor, Aren't Cheap. ESPECIALLY if you don't have any insurance (like yours truly, who now has a thousand-dollar debt and that was just for a regular visit). So on that level, I can understand why a lot of people (including myself; it was one of the reasons I put off for the longest time ever going to a doctor for female-related problems) are very reluctant to go.
That said, *HUGS* to Mysty and I hope you don't have to go through a whole lot of misery (financial, physical and all) before they find out what's wrong and can fix it!

Just ringing in late. Go to a doctor. PLease.
Sustained weakness and vertigo is bad in someone who keeps themselves in good shape like you do. Throw in the lack of period and constant vomiting and I'm tempted to grab a ticket and help your coworkers drag you to an appointment. Hey, you've already admitted you're too weak right now to stop us. ;)
Best wishes sent your way.

I'm ringing in late too. :o
Go to the doctor if you haven't done so yet.
As for male and/or female gynos. Just go with whomever you feel more comfortable with. My gyno now is a nice guy and he's gentle when it comes to the PAP smear thing. In actuality, I prefer going to him over the dentist!
But please, go and let us know what is going on. Thanks!

Well, updating.
I'm feeling a lot better today than I was Friday (which admittedly wouldn't take much, but there is a vast improvement). I can tell my strength levels still aren't to where they should be, but I don't feel like a newborn kitten either. I'm on my fourth day of Prilosec which has stopped the acid, so I can sleep now *yay sleep* and it appears from the current behavior of my mother that there is some sort of flu bug that I had causing the ill.
I spent Saturday and Sunday holed up in my room not doing anything more strenuous than laying in the floor in front of the air conditioner playing Fallout (remember how it was 20 degrees? It's 80 now. Welcome to Arkansas). My mom actually theorized that another part of my problem is arthritis, especially with as much athletic work as I've done and the fact that we've had all four seasons about five times in the last month. I know I have it in my knees, so I suppose it wouldn't be impossible.
The only bad news is that the period issues have not been fixed. So, I do have an appointment with a gyno on the 28th (earliest available), which I am SO NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO, but I suppose is pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point.
So, thanks for the advice/threats...I'll keep you guys updated on things, but for now, it seems to be well in hand. Aside from the fact of how P.O.'ed I'll be if I get the damn period like, two days before the doctor's appointment.

Nothing the doctor hasn't seen before.
I'm glad you're seeing a doctor, even if most of what you're going through is just a particularly nasty strain of flu. You never know when complications can set in. Winter of 2006, I had what I thought was a lingering cold. After five weeks of getting slightly better then getting worse (lather, rinse, repeat), I saw the doctor. Turned out I had bronchitis, and needed two breathing treatments and a slew of prescriptions. So you're wise to not let this continue. Best of luck and a speedy recovery! :)

Not a doctor here, but am Registered Nurse. Get yourself to a clinic or an ER, don't worry about money, if you don't have anything the government will pick up the tab. Your symptoms don't sound reassuring.

If there's no money, go to the free clinic or something. It's reached the unbearable point. Or the emergency room. They will work out some sort of payment plan where you pay them 5 bucks a month or something.

Well, a little update. Tomorrow is my appointment with the girly doctor. I'm scared out of my freaking mind.
I've actually had a period now, about a week and a half ago, but it was...not normal. So I know the issue is not resolved and could still stand some medical work. That doesn't make me feel any less freaked out and nervous. I'm sure all the women reading this are going "Oh God, suck it up, millions of women have done this and been fine." Believe me, I'm saying that to myself, too. Doesn't make the stomach cramps go away
I'm not even scared of getting bad news. I mean, if it's cancer or something is falling out or whatever bad thing it could be, well, que sera sera. I'll get whatever I need to have done, whatever, don't care that much. As Frasier's ex Lilith put it once "If we crash and die, we crash and die."
I'm TERRIFIED about when the doctor is actually in the room and preparing to do the examination. I mean, I know what goes into it, I've gotten lots of great advice and pointers from the women here and my coworkers. I'm just still scared shitless. Encouraging words or "Get over it's" will help :)
Eh, anyway, like I said, I'm going tomorrow, so wish me luck that my startle reflex doesn't kick in and I accidently kick the poor doctor in the face. :o

GET OVER IT!!!!!
There, better?
Seriously, it won't be so bad. I know it's nerve wracking and embarrassing, but once it's over you'll be thinking, that's it? Why the hell was I so worked up?
Good luck :)
Mysty babe, I'm right alongside ya!
I have to go in for another colposcopy on Tuesday. I was to have one two Mondays ago, but the doctor couldn't see what she needed, for lack of a better phrase.
The more girly appointments you have, the easier it will be. I still get feelings of nervousness, discomfort, etc.......but after you've done this for a few years, it won't bother you as much anymore.

01-28-2008, 10:20 PM
Well, I'm back. And while the procedure wasn't as bad as I had thought...it was still pretty frecking BAD. Bad enough to send me screaming off the table at one point. It literally just felt like I was getting stabbed with a white-hot needle during the first part of the test, and that was awful, but then the second part-which both my mom and the doctor admitted they hated worst, wasn't too bad. It was painful, but no worse than getting kicked in the stomach or something, nothing I couldn't handle. I kind of surprised them with my calm analysis of that pain after the shrieking and sobbing from the first part. :o
But, now that it's over, I feel there are no emotional scars lingering, so I should be able to sleep tonight. Now it'll be three weeks for them to get the results of my test back. At least the hard part is over with for the moment. URGH.

I am so proud of you. I am sorry to hear that part of the visit was that painful to you. Most likely that will be a clue to the Doc of part of what is going on.
If I had the ability to sit and wait to hear results I would send that vibe your way . . .since I don't . . .I'll just send more hugs.
