*sigh*

My mom used to tell me to be darn careful what I wished for "because you could get it and be much sorrier than before!"

We-lp, I sure got my wish. After 30-odd job applications, I got an interview with a manager at a local Pizza Hut. Sparing the details, I'll say I have a further interview in a few days.

The manager gave me the lowdown. Of course the pay is peanuts (minimum wage), and there'll be SC's to deal with...but O.M.G., of ALL the PH's to apply at...!

Unless she was totally lying, the place is busy like crazy every single day they're open. Some days $1200 goes through their register in ~half a day!~ Also, the supervisor is "very hands-on"...meaning if you're not busy for 10 seconds your @$$ is grass. She also frankly stated that "9 times out of 10" I won't be going home at the hour I'm scheduled to. (then what's the point?! sheesh.)

All in all I am pretty sure I can't hack this job - at least not for long without losing my sanity, cool, grades, health, or several of those at once. If it looks like I'll end up being fired, I'll leave myself. Of course, that will be interpreted by all future employers as being a quitter, but an involuntary termination is worse.

Geez, how I rant. Point it, I will probably soon be joining the ranks of you all dealing with SC's, for a pittance, day in and day out. No more reading and commenting - I'll be a contributer!

Wish me luck. I need some.

I worked at Pizza Hut for a while and learned two good lessons.

1. They are legally obligated to let you leave at the scheduled time.

2. Never answer your phone on your day off.

I dont understand why, even if the money is needed, you'd be so willing to take a job with so little benefit to it. Not meaning to bash food service or anything like that, heck my dad worked for pizza hut in college.

Darth, read the part about 30 odd job applications. Sometimes you just gotta get a job. My SO, due to his last two employers now being out of business and unreachable, is in the same shoes now- he has no references, and has to debate between putting them on his resume with no proof they ever existed and leaving them off and having almost zero work experience.

Take the job and keep looking for another.

The thing about a crappy job at minimum wage with hard working conditions: Any other job offer is the better offer. Its not like you'll be tempted to stay for the money.

He should list those jobs anyway. Somewhere, there is proof that they existed, even if only in some government office filing cabinet or his paycheck stubs at home. And if he's found out to be lying on your job app or resume -- even if he's the best employee ever -- he can be terminated.

Back on topic, Dark-Star, I wish I knew what to tell you. The job might not be as bad as the manager is letting on, or it may be worse. And the job market is horrible everywhere. Whether you choose to take it or not, I wish you the best of luck. :)
