i've managed to go 28 years without ever needing stitches, and now i've had them twice in less than two weeks. the first was just two for a minor surgical procedure to remove an unknown mass from my shoulder, and those were due to come out today. then, last night i was cleaning the floor at work when i slipped. i started falling backwards, but reached out to catch myself. somehow i overcompensated and managed to flip myself around, but with my arms still behind me i had nothing to break my fall with except my face :( i hit the ground chin first and immediately started gushing blood. then i got to spend three hours in the emergency room waiting to be stitched up (i think 6 this time, but i haven't taken the bandage off to check). gross. at least the chin stitches are the self-dissolving type. but i hadn't had a tetanus booster in 10 years, so i had to get one of those, and now in addition to my chin being swollen to what feels like about 10 times normal size and being unable to open my mouth more than about a 1/2", my arm feels like it's ready to fall off :(

Owww, that sucks. :( I hope you feel better soon.

BTW, the dissolving stitches will sometimes "spit," as I was told by the nurse after my dd's surgery. Sometimes they don't dissolve quite all the way, and your skin will sort of push them to the surface. Not all the time, but sometimes. DD and I have both had the dissolving one with no spitting involved, but I just thought I would let you know in case the hospital staff did not.

thanks for the warning. they didn't tell me about spitting, but they did say that occasionally they don't dissolve or don't dissolve completely, in which case i'd have to have them removed like normal stitches.
