Things got really negative at work in the last couple of months. Someone who was hired to be a temp worker started taking over the hotel, organizing things the way she likes them and treating me like garbage.
I don't mind taking orders from management but not from a temp worker. She would lecture me about everything, order me around like her personal servant, and imply numerous times that I wasn't good at my job.
I busted my hump for them and worked every time they asked me. I hardly ever called in sick and they chose her in the end. So much for loyalty. But I've already started filling out applications. Wish me luck.

OOOooOo
Sorry it came to that, I hope you have luck. You should NEVER EVER quit without a job in place.

Normally I would have waited but it was pretty a quit before you get fired type situation. They made it very clear that I wasn't going to be working there much longer. Plus the stress was giving me chest pains. Imagine being followed around by someone telling you every day that you aren't good at your job, constantly questioning you about everything, and treating you like you are too stupid to comprehend the simplelest tasks. Then imagine that happening every day for a couple of months and no relief in sight.
The thing that infuriates me that she wasn't management and only worked there for two or three months, I worked there for three years.

You did the right thing, best to get out now before you have a nervous breakdown, hopefully you won't be between jobs for too long.
GOOD LUCK :)

Good luck finding a new (better) job. I'm looking for one myself right now.

I know it's stressful, but if you get fired, you have unemployment to LIVE off of. It's a black mark on your record, but paying RENT comes first.

I had that same thing when I was at Progressive. It was just after I got preggers with my youngest. Since my manager wasn't being specific about my pregnancy, there was nothing legal I could do or claim. So I just quietly searched for a better job. I found one that its' start date was 6 weeks after my interview & job offer. So I waited until the very last day that I could work and still get my profit sharing check (a couple grand plus I still had my last 2 paychecks coming) that would come just before the next mortgage payment was due, so money wasn't an issue. I slowly packed up my desk and just kept working... and when my manager pissed me off for the last time, I got up, told her what I thought of her and the treatment I have received over 18 months, and grabbed my stuff and left. Oh, and a nice double-finger to my bitchy co-workers was also pulled off.
Most satisfying thing I have ever done. Especially since I was pregnant and hormonal and really needing to vent some steam.

Hmm, lessee, stress negative effects:
Nervous breakdowns. Heart attacks. Ulcers. High blood pressure.
These are the ones that to mind first. Financial effects of all of the above: At a minimum, large doctor bills. Common: Extended unemployment. Not so common: Death.
Hmmm, personally, I'll take the lesser unemployment of quitting. Beats the hell out of my other choices when faced with extremely stressful situations. And yes, I've been there. I'd still choose it.
My health and happiness come before rent. In fact, my health and happiness are so far in first that they've just about lapped any financial concerns.
Always will be, too.
I'm disappointed that anyone would allow a temp employee to boss around valued longtime staff. Seriously, I'm going to be ill. That would be like allowing DipShit or any of the other idiot temps to do that where I work. Blech!
I can understand where you're coming from though. There are times when mental sanity and health is more important than money or finding another job first. Especially if your blood presure is skyrocketing, you're on the verge of a breakdown, etc etc.
Good luck babe!

I'm curious what the management had to say...

I'm curious what the management had to say...
Nothing she's longtime friend of the manager. Every time I asked them to please tell co-worker to lay off, they would tell her and she would ignore them. I wonder now if they wanted me to go and keep her on. It's winter and hours were slim so I got kind of surprised when they told me that I would be splitting my hours with someone who was only supposed to be a when needed employee.
I busted my butt for them, came in on days off, and even went without days off for those people for a year (I worked there for two years prior under the previous owners) or more. I don't mind taking directions but not when I'm yelled at, treated like I'm stupid, or outright insulted about my cleaning prowess in front of the guests. Especially when that person is not management.
I"m hurt, angry, and feeling used. However a hotel nearby told me they were looking and will call me. Cross your fingers.
And you have every right to feel that way.
GOOD LUCK with the other hotel. Maybe they will appreciate you for the hardworker you are. Hey, it's your hotel's loss. Just remember that. Their loss, your gain!
And hey, this may cheer you up.....when little temp girl scares away everyone else, and her true colors show up, who do you think the boss is going to want back?

Yay I got a new job. This morning I went to the liquor store to pick up some coffee and breakfast sandwiches. The manager and I got to talking and I learned that they were hiring. I filled out an application I was hired. I'm so stoked, I've been searching for a month and was getting worried.:)
