View Full Version : I'm taking the bus!

We (my husband and I) have decided that it's cheaper for me to take the bus to work.

I'm looking over the map of bus routes and couldn't figure out where the heck I was suppose to go to get the bus I needed.

I call the bus company and the lady did help me figure out how to get to the bus I needed and what time I need to be there to not be late.

I'm a little nervous though, since I get lost very easily and don't want to be late for three days in a row. The first time, I had to wait for my husband to get home, since the coworker who said he would give me a ride didn't answer his phone. This coworker could have just said he couldn't do it and I wouldn't be pissed off at him as I am now.

The second time, the cab I called was an hour late, even though I called almost two hours ahead of time to make sure I had plenty of time. Still got charged full fare. I would think after being that late they would off a discount.

So, today I don't want to be late, since I HATE BEING LATE! and my boss isn't thrilled with me being late either. Plus, I can't afford to take a taxi all the time, till my friend comes back to work.

I have to take one bus and transfer to another and should be at work with 10 minutes to spare. I hope.

Wish me luck that I don't get lost and end up in Delaware! :D

Mis, if I lived in the same state, I'd drive you to work every day.

When I lived in Whitehall, I had to take the bus on a pretty regular basis. Of course, I was pretty impatient, so I often used this tactic. The stop just outside my apartment complex (about a half mile away from my apartment) only had a bus going in the direction I needed about every hour. Not too terribly convenient and you can never really predict whether a bus is going to be early, late, break down, etc.

The next stop (about a half mile away) had a bus coming about every 30 minutes. Often what I would do is go to the first stop, look to see if there was a bus on the horizon, and if there wasn't, go to the next stop. In fact, what I learned was (and really, it made sense for my situation) that the closer you get to downtown, the more frequent the busses were. Therefore, continuing the tactic of looking, proceeding to next stop, etc., I was able to get a bus just as quickly if not quicker than simply standing at the one stop, hoping I didn't miss the bus.

That, and I got quite a lot of exercise like that. Yeah, those were back in the days were I WISHED I could gain weight and now I've come to live with my cursed wish. :p

The bus will cost less than what I was offering to pay my coworkers for gas money, so by taking the bus I'm actually saving money.

My biggest fear is getting lost. Trust me, I'm good at getting lost, and when I do I go into a panic. I know it's not a big deal, but I still panic. :(

Plus, with some of the walking I have to do to get to the buses maybe I will lose some weight. I have lost almost 10 pounds since I started working at this job and hope to lose a little more. I have a pair of jeans that are just waiting to be worn when I lose some more weight! :D

Anytime I know I'll have to take a bus anywhere (local), a few days beforehand, when I have time, I'll ride the whole route of each bus I'll need to take, so I'll know where they do or don't actually go, and about how long it takes. This may not be an option for you, but it's a thought.

It all depends on the transit system and the support they get. We are suposedly the capitol city for the state, and our bus system simply SUCKS.

That would fine, if they weren't taunting me! :( ;)
