View Full Version : Hmm, suspicious?

We have a "Sunpass" for or cars. For those who don't know what it is, it's a transponder in my car that allows me to pay tolls electronically (other places, Mass-Pass, EZ-pass etc..).

All toll lanes are supposed to be equipped with Sunpass scanners.

I've noticed a few times over the past year or so that if I've gone up to a lane with a teller and a gate that my Sunpass will not work. The sign will say "invalid pass" or "no funds" and I'll have to pay cash (usually $0.25 to $0.50 more, and possibly more over the long haul drives (between Palm Beach counties and Orlando).

Do you find this suspicious?

No, not particularly, if you (the hypothetical everyone 'you', not you personally) went through life and nothing was broken or not working in some way, that would be suspicious.

Just be careful checking your statement though for your pass.

On the NJ & PA turnpikes, along with the Garden State Parkway, I know that each lane has a sign saying what is and isn't acceptable. Some are EZ pass only. Some are exact change and EZ pass. Some have a teller. I would doubt the ones with tellers are for EZ pass at all.

Actually, they are. The Florida turnpike authority made most, if not all, lanes SunPass accessible.

I'm familiar with how the GS Parkway is set up (I lived in NJ when they started EZ-pass and it was one hell of a SNAFU, especially at the large toll just south of Edison).

I've occasionally seen tellers in lanes that also take EZ-Pass. Personally I like the express lane between the NJ and PA turnpikes, that allows you to go 45 instead of slowing way down and going through a regular sized toll lane. :)

But yeah, usually the lanes that take EZ Pass only are marked with bright purple signs and flashing yellow lights or something.

Edit: I don't know why there is a little embarrassed face at the top of this post. I am not embarrassed. I just have a wonky mouse pad thingy on my laptop that likes to jump my cursor around as I type and will sometimes click things even when I haven't pressed the button. It's annoying. It also leads to lots of editing when I post something and then notice stray characters that don't belong.

Draggar, I'd check your battery in your sunpass too. Those circle cell batteries run out after awhile, so I'd go ahead and replace it, but I haven't had that problem once, as I drive from Lake Worth to Gardens every day, and sometimes I do use the teller lanes. Try indicating to the teller your sunpass (holding it up, etc.) because it may require them to indicate that you have a sunpass or something.

I thought about that, but you'd think it would be a little less consistent if that was it? It seems to only happen when I use a lane with a teller.

Eh, I'll just stick with the SunPass lanes from now on. :)

I've always found that the SunPass lane is ALWAYS faster, so I def agree with just sticking to it.
