Take that you crazy psychotic 'Diamonds is what you really want, lalalalala!' pushy lady! I got the ring of MY DREAMS!

---

Christmas came and hubby surprised me with a lovely emerald ring from Zales. Because the car was out of comission, I was working overtime and just scraping by, my ring was left, abandoned, in my jewelery box because it was just too freakin' small.

Last week, I finally had some free time. The hubs and I decided to head over to the mall (the bane of my existence) because we were just sick and tired of being holed up at home. On the way out to the car, hubs spins around, goes back to the house and leaves me baffled. (Mind you, I had forgotten about the ring because I hadn't been using it... though I wanted to and tried once, but my finger just swelled up and turned purple. :( )

We're walking around, he pulls me into Zales, I'm a bit baffled. Husband produces the ring, tells the associate we need it resized. Lady goes into 'omg, its beautiful!' mode. Asks me if I've worn it? I say yes, but its just a touch too small-- I can get it on, but taking it off is antoher issue. She says she understands and places the ring next to my hand. She then goes on to say how I have THE perfect complexion to wear emeralds. --FYI, hubby had the good thought to pruchase the lifetime warranty at time of purchase so resizing and cleaning is at zero cost. --

It made me blush. I'm not used to such complements. xD

Anyway, I JUST got my ring back yesterday. I tried it on to see if it fit (now its just a tinsy bit big as apperantly my finger was still swollen when we got it sized. ) Sales lady starts gushing. She flags over another lady and they just go on and on how some people just have the *right hands* to wear such rings. They go on, again, about my complexion. A lady came over, saw the ring, realized its my engagement ring and just went on to gush.

'Oh, that's such a wonderful idea! My son's girlfriend would LOVE to have that ring in sapphire. She's just unique like that and says diamonds are over rated.'

----

I have no clue how we got out of the store, but I'll tell you this:

I just can't stop glancing down at my hand. Its so pretty and it means so much to me. Now I can finally show it off to my Mom and sisters.

Aww. :)
I wish I was as surprising with the girl I'm dating right now.

Yaaaayyyy! :grats:

I too think diamonds are overrated. I'd rather have a puppy. You can put a rhinestone collar on her if it makes you feel better. :D

I'm not big on rings myself so my ex-fiancé bought me necklace with a gorgeous kelly green emerald pendant as an engagment gift. I don't have the fiancé anymore (hence the ex-) but I still have the necklace and pendant. When we split I asked him if he wanted it back but he told me that he couldn't see it on anybody else, it was mine to do what I wished with it.

I too think diamonds are highly over-rated and done to death.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay you!!!!!!!!

I, too, think diamonds are overrated. I still have a diamond engagement ring, though. It was my future MIL's. Saved us a few dollars, so who's complaining?

Yay! Another 'engagement puppy' believer!

What could represent lifetime committment and unconditional love more than a puppy?

And, of course, I'd never dream of marrying someone who would give an animal as a gift without discussing it, thinking it over, considering what happens if kids come along (though I don't want any), and making decisions together- all stuff that should happen before engagement anyway.

*high fives Demise*

Woot for uniqueness and resisting the ebil diamond pushers!

Your ring sounds absolutely stunning!

I think that as long as it makes the person wearing it happy than no stone is over rated. I love my small 1/4 ct. diamond ring because it fits my hand perfectly and whenever I look at it, it reminds me of my fiancee and our wedding that's coming up.

Yay for people wearing whatever jewelry they want without having to hear how non unique they are, or how overrated their item is ;-)
