On Saturday I went to my local flea market to see what kind of goodies they had. So I see a stand set-up by girl scouts selling girl scout cookies. So they see me look & they go into their sales pitch. & I said..."ewww girl scout cookies!' So then they say that it's FAT FREE & then I say..."ewwwww!! even worse!!"
All the girls there gave me a look that would have toppled mountains...lol.
I never have liked girl scout cookies. They taste weird.

I'm sad right now, because I wasn't approached by any Girl Scouts this year. I can go through boxes upon boxes of Thin Mints in short order. Nothing better than when they've been kept in the freezer before eating. :D

OOC, how old were the girls? Because if they were pretty young, that might be kind of over the top, as opposed to just saying "No thank you." *not trying to start anything, just curious!*

We have a supposed "no soliciting" rule at work (set in place by HR), and yet, so funny.....every time the Girl Scouts are selling cookies, every time the schools are trying to get kids to sell stuff, everyone is hassling people to buy the stuff. And don't get me started on the Avon and Mary Kay ladies.

We always have girls selling cookies in the student center on my campus. As far as I see it, there is one huge upside and huge downside for this location:

Upside: TONS of people will pass them.

Downside: College kids are generally poor.

I bought two boxes of Thin Mints. I went through one box in one day. I just put the other box in the fridge. $3.50 a box? They're killing me!

When I sold Girl Scout Cookies, they were $1.75 a box.

My roomie teaches first grade, so she's got a few little Brownies in her class. Of course, she can't buy from just one of them, so she can't buy from any of them. She encountered some Scouts set up outside of the grocery store one day, and bought me a box of Thin Mints. That was a couple weeks ago and I actually refrained from opening them until just this afternoon :D. My other favorite is the Samoas (?) - the caramel-coconut-chocolate ones. Yummy.

They actually changed the name of the Samoas. (I believe because of the cultural reference.) They are now something like Caramel Delites. I'm a sucker for those. I got two boxes from a coworker earlier this year. They didn't last long.

Mmm, Thin Mints. Put them in the freezer and eat them frozen. Or try the Dreyer's (Edy's) Thin Mint Ice Cream (chocolate mint ice cream with thin mint cookies mixed in). YUM!

I also like the shortbread cookies, and I remember when they were really thin and delicate and even tastier.

Mmm Samoas.

Someone gave girl scouts in my area a counterfeit $100 and walked off with about $94 in real change... When you have to scam girl scouts to feel like a big man, well, that's when I hope karma gets you.

False advertising. The cookies contain no girl scouts

For as along as I've worked at my current place of employment, there have always been at least two people walking around with the Girl Scouts cookie order sheet.

This year? Nothing. :sob: I NEED my Thin Mints!!!!!! :runaway:

I live for the ice cream, too, but my store hasn't gotten any. It's a conspiracy against me.

I think that story was posted on a previous incarnation of Customers Suck. A lot of people were POed about it, and quite right, too.

So they see me look & they go into their sales pitch. & I said..."ewww girl scout cookies!' So then they say that it's FAT FREE & then I say..."ewwwww!! even worse!!"That was a little harsh, I think.

A simple, "No thanks," would have been sufficient. After all, you said you were looking. It's not like they jumped out from nowhere and started the sales pitch.

They're just young girls. They sell the cookies to raise money for their activities, and to provide some life skills such as handling money and dealing with people.

I happen to like the cookies, and the money is for a good cause, but I can understand the not everyone is going to like them. In our area, we do not have the variety available. Our local Girl Guides only sell the chocolate/vanilla sandwich cookie combo in the spring.
They sell the mint ones in the fall.

I just feel you could have said no in a more polite way than you did.
You were at a flea market.
If you had come across a booth selling other things you didn't like and the person started a sales pitch would you have said, "Eeeewww...that's hideous. I hate it."

I think it depends on the tone it was said in. If she said it seriously, yes, too harsh- but if she said it like I say to my niece, teasingly, "Ewww, little girl germs," when she climbs on my lap- so she knows I'm teasing and giggles- that's different.

I hate how yummy Girl Scout cookies are, because I keep trying not to buy them and yet Samoas and Thin Mints mysteriously end up in my cabinet, and my wallet mysteriously ends up lighter. I just can't resist...

Because of a small issue with an :ot: comment, I want to make a friendly reminder:

This thread is about COOKIES!!
We do not care to read about anyone's opinions on the Girl Scout organization as a whole.

That's why we have www.fratching.com

We have a no solicitation policy at work too.. people still do it though. There was only one person selling girl scout cookies though... I'm pretty sure she got about 500 boxes sold from just the 2nd shift people

I know I bought 6 boxes :D

I tried those a few years ago back when my youngest sister was still in Girl Scouts, as my stepmom kept talking about how good they were.

She's right . . . they are really good, but then I can open a box of Thin Mints and they disappear in less than a day.

I haven't see any being sold around here yet, but I'm sure they'll start. As to whether I'll buy any this year, I'm not sure. They have gotten quite expensive now and the package weight seems to be less than what it used to be.

Besides, I've got a cabinet full of crackers and cookies that were slipped in a couple of weeks ago by a certain oversized elf that needs to be eaten . . .

I bought a couple boxes at work, One of my coworkers was selling them for her daughter, and they had the option of sending some to our troops overseas, so that's where mine are going.

I also bought a box or two from a cute little neighborhood girl.

With the weather being the way it has been the last few weeks, I've been worried that the girl scouts wouldn't be able to get to me to sell me their cookies. THANKFULLY, just THANKFULLY! They were able to make it. I have like 12 boxes on order. Crisis averted!!!

I LOVE thin mints...

I've found that Grasshopper cookies made by Keebler (no grasshoppers were harmed in their making, btw) are pretty good substitutions. The taste is almost the same, but the texture is a little different. Oh well...they hold me over :)

Mmmmm...thin mints! Ummmgggghhhhhhh......*drool

Sadly, I haven't seen an order sheet at work.

There are other groups who do fundraisers at my store. If they're selling Seroogy's (candy company not too far from me) mint meltaway bars, I always buy a few.

Amusingly enough, my Thin Mints were delivered by a very large, balding Girl Scout by the name of Mike.... :D Then again, being in Tokyo I was glad to get any at all! However, also being Canadian I still insist on calling them Girl Guide cookies and, while Thin Mints are good, they're just not the nameless chocolate Girl Guide cookies....

yes, I know I'm odd...
