So, I'm perusing help wanted ads online and I find one that catches my eye so I sent my resume.

It turns out that the ad (and who I sent my resume to) was posted by a staffing agency. They called me Friday to tell me that they would submit my resume to the company and let me know what (if anything) they hear.

Now, I've been worried all weekend that however this turns out I'm going to end up getting charged by this place for sending my resume to this company. (Nothing was signed or brought up, but I know some agencies charge the job seekers as well as the company hiring)

What do you think? Am I worrying for nothing, should I ask these people to forget my resume? Or see what it brings me?

Wait until the fecal matter hits the spinning blades. The agency may get paid by the hiring company and you're out nothing.

If they do send you a bill, tell them to stuff it.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Headhunters are paid by the company that is trying to bring people in - *not* by the folks seeking a job. At least not in North America.

I've used them a couple of times over the years to find a new job - you might as well see where it leads.

Sounds like a temp agency or a headhunter. They get paid by the company, not by the applicant. In fact the only way they make money is by getting as many applicants matched up to client companies.

This is a common practice with temp agencies. Unless you signed something with them, you are not obligated to pay them anything.

If they say otherwise, then you can just ask for the proof that you signed anything saying you would, which you indicate you haven't. It's their burden to prove that you entered into a written contract with them, not yours.

If you really still feel that you don't want to deal with it, then call them and tell them what you told us and let them reassure you.

If they didn't say anything about it, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't imagine a company would last long springing surprise bills on job hunters...
