View Full Version : When cats fight...

Word of advice DO NOT try to break up the battle with your bare hands. Now I knew this, so I'll chalk this little brain fart to being woken up and not quite thinking clearly.

It was funny that as the bleeding slowed and the shock started to wear off (you know shock, sweating, nausea, dizzy), that is when I realized that having the ambulance give me a ride to the hospital was a better idea than trying to drive myself. Nice guys those ambulance guys are. No stitches, just a lot of cleaning and a prescription for antibiotics.

All I have to say is:
stupid stupid stupid:rolleyes:

When it's a pet, you don't think much beyond "Baby's in trouble!" ;)

A few years ago, we had a repair man we knew come by for some reason- I forget what- and he usually brought this gorgeous white German shepherd named Lucy with him. My younger brother decided it would be fun to take my cat outside on a leash and tease Lucy with it. He didn't count on the dog knowing how to open the screen door. Next thing I know, my brother's screaming, my cat's squalling and climbing up and down my brother like a tree, the dog's jumping around trying to catch the cat, and my mom's right in the middle of it trying to break it up. By the time the cat finally escaped into the basement, my brother was covered with scratches and my mom had gotten bitten three times on her hand by the cat.

Luckily the injuries weren't serious, and while it wasn't funny then, I find it amusing now.

You're supposed to throw water at them. Cats hate water so it usually makes they run away. Trust me, my cat used to get in fights all the time.

Yes I do know that I'm suppose to throw water on them. As I mentioned in my OP I had just woken up. But thanks for pointing it out for those who may not know this.

This is one of the many reasons my cats do not go outside.

Just as an aside. The two cats that were fighting are rescue cats. They were strays that I had rescued, and am working with a rescue agency to get them adopted. One of the cats, the one that accidentally bit me is a bit of a project. He has had a few health problems. In fact he would be dead if I hadn't got him when I did.

Currently I have my two cats, who were strays, a family that I rescued last year but were too old to really get them tame to be adoptable. So that's 7 of my own. My step-sister has one, but she stays upstairs. Then there is the 5 kittens and their mother in the one spare room, and the feral mother who is recouping from her spay, in the basement. Her babies are already mostly adopted, and are being fostered elsewhere. So currently in my house there are 15 cats. If people had spayed/neutered and kept their cats inside, then this wouldn't be a problem. Our animal control puts down over 200 cats and kittens every week. As cruel as it sounds, I really don't know what else is to be done with them.

Well, kudos to you for getting these cats off the streets and eventually into good homes.

I live in an apartment, otherwise I would consider doing some foster work like that.

I have three myself, and only one is spayed, and that's the one who likes to slip out the door at every opportunity in search of adventure. She's also the "alpha cat", with the other two also being females, and another reason I had her spayed was in the hopes of calming her down a bit so she'd be less aggressive.

The other two were both strays, and I could open the door and leave it open, and they wouldn't try to get out. They knew "outside" too well, "outside" is the devil, and they like having a nice safe home, thankyouverymuch. :D

I have nothing against spaying, and it's a pet peeve of mine that people DON'T have their cats spayed or neutered, and still let them run around outside.

I am also vehemently against declawing, but that's another rant entirely.

The Gatekeeper, didn't I warn you that your cats were evil and trying to take over the world? ;)

They know how to pull bedclothes off sleeping Rapscallions, as well as stare at them in the dark from up-side down.

Don't ask how I know.

A breeding colony.

Well, a non-breeding colony, actually, but...

It's sort of complicated.

So where do the furry manboobs come in? :D

Usually during the third intersection of the moon in Capricorn.

I said it was complicated.
