woops.

Well I just got banned from a forum. I've only posted two stories there, and got banned for the second one.

The reason I'm embarrassed, is I wrote the stories with using B*tch. thats it...really. I'm not an angel I know that. But it's embarrassing none the less to get banned for using B*tch (in that form by the way).
Agreed, maybe there was something in the rules that says you can't use ANY swear words in ANY form. SO I'm not claiming to be little miss innocent. If they think I should be banned for using B*tch, then I'll take it. I spose I'm used to being able to use that seeing as you can SORT of do it here if you are careful...ie. do the little * thing in stead of using the whole word.

Well all I can say is consider me red faced and embarrassed. Just wish they had let me know and given me a warning/pulled the story and told me. I've slipped up here once before and have (I think) been very careful not to make any more mistakes. Guess this place was not so forgiving. So I'll wear it WOOPS!

Now those are some draconian forum rules right there. Getting banned for one mistake is a bit much, I think - especially for a new member who doesn't know the ropes yet. I don't think our CS mods would be so quick to ban someone.

But, as my mother would say, "What have we all learned?" That's right - read the rules carefully and assume they mean business. Second chances are a nice gesture, but we're never owed them.

I can't really say, since I don't know which forums they are, but it could have a lot to do of the ages of people on the forums. What's the youngest we have right now? 17? I was like 15 when I joined CS, though I probably knew more swear words than everyone here combined. Isn't my generation great?

Yeah. I try not to swear here. But every now and then I slip, more often when I'm angry. However I think the rules state its ok, for a reasonable amount. If its one minor one, boo-hoo. But if its like the major hitter words, in every sentence without reasonable clause, then you push it too much.

I'm semicurious as to what forum this was though. :)

How many different languages? :p

Meh, I was threatened with being banned simply for calling out mods for abuse of power. 'Tis a forum I won't ever visit again because of that and the reason I posted originally I never use again. No big loss.

explosm.net's cyanide and happiness forums are actually pretty damned funny when it comes to banning people. There are so many members they had to create a thread dump for stupid threads, and they give time outs instead of infractions.

*blink*

Since this is a venting forum, we allow a reasonable amount of swearing. If it becomes punctuation, we step in, but generally we explain instead of ban in the first instance of stepping over the line. If someone has a forum with a rule like that, I'd very much like to see a list of what they consider cursing before I post. Many people have different opinions on different words.

We don't need to call out mods for abusing their power here. We all just know they do it.

JUST kidding. I love you guys!

I know . . . it's a poor substitute for sex, isn't it?:p

Seriously though, I had no idea that there are boards out here where one cannot use any swear words at all. . .

I'd be gone within an hour . . . maybe less if the moon's just right. But then, I don't think I'd feel at home there anyways b/c I'm so accustomed to the atmosphere here

Now mailing lists are something else . . . I had been a member for several years on a fan club list, but the group got to the point where it became too cliquish and certain members dominated the threads. And Dog help you if you didn't agree with the status quo . . . your post was either ignored or replied to quite snidely.

And the worst "sin" of all was to call them out on it, no matter how nicely it was done. This group actually had the gall to suspend a long-time poster (she'd been around about a couple of years at least) all because she was asking if she had offended anyone b/c she had made a couple of posts and nobody replied and was wondering if anyone else was having similar issues.

That member got a 30 day suspension . . . she didn't come back and emailed me off-list about it. I ended up leaving myself soon afterwards.

Too much like high school for me.

thanx guys.

I wish I had the story I had posted. I had gone back to copy it as I wen "oh C**P I should have copied that because it took so long to write"

I was SOOOOO mad when I wrote it because it was about a friend who's going through a lot of problems.

I still find it upsetting. First offense, and all. If I can remember the gist of what I said I'll re-write the story, because I REALLY need advice on it. It makes me so sad I want to cry. (the thing with my friend not the ban)

However, I'm not going to get-unbanned. And Boozy your mum is right "what have I learned" to make sure I read all forum rules through carefully to make sure I don't make a mistake.Such is life I spose you live and learn.

Still peeved ;);) but at least I can accept.

Chardonnay, I think all 'club' type lists tend to be like that. I was on a rat list run by one breeder of dubious ethics, and when I joined, they happened to be in the middle of bashing another breeder of dubious ethics-- not only her breeding and her rats, but her personality, and even went so far as to suggest she was an animal abuser and a sociopath. I got banned from the list for pointing out that they should probably be cautious about these statements because they could be opening the breeder who ran the list up to a libel lawsuit.

The reason given for banning me: "Other members are uncomfortable having a spy for XXX breeder in their midst."

.....I'd never even SPOKEN to XXX.

wow it seems that there are a few people who have been banned/suspended for silly/minor reasons.

Makes me feel a tad better....

I have to say tho, the mods here are awesome! I like the fact that you all understand people slip up, and treat us all with so much respect :) giving us at least one chance ;);):D

thank you guys!

Ha, I got banned repeatedly on the official Kiss message board, along with several other people. Our crime? Posting that we did not like Tommy Thayer and did not agree with what Kiss were doing. If that doesn't make sense to you, then you are not a Kiss fan; which is actually good, as Kiss fans are the most childish, rabid and downright crazy fans around.

After the first ban, which was completely unjustified, I just made up loads of different accounts and kept going back. Cuz they never IP banned anyone, I and the other people who did this just could do this ad finitum, sometimes on the same email addy as they only banned by name. XD

I've seen some forums that are way too full of themselves. i almost got banned from a forum about a TV show for using a lame segway of "well enough about character x, what about character y?" One of the other posters was mortally offended and when I suggested they were over-reacting the mod threatened to ban me.

can't say much about language. ... let's just say that i've offended sailors. :o

I have also seen a poster who should have been banned allowed to roam free on a message board... resulting eventually in that board's closure. She's still known in circles as "The psycho who killed the Poison board."

So it would appear the general consensus is that these boards are very well run!

Always nice to play when the sandbox is clean.

I've only very recently joined any other boards (like, last week, and last night, respectively). They were PFB, because I wanted to write a compliment letter, and just last night I signed up on Fratching (finally) to comment on a couple topics.

I've generally stayed away from message boards for fear of the flame wars and such that can happen. I love how those sorts of things get shut down right quick around here, and also that it is relatively rare that it needs to happen at all! :)

(I  our mods!)

one of my message boards... i don't visit at work unless i have photos disabled. ...Moby has the official disclaimer for his boards but basically, there's no rules. so if you want to post a picture of a giant c**k in your signature, they won't stop you. They did ban an account where someone impersonated another poster's 4 year old child (including photos of her), especially after posting sick stuff... but that's about it. Oh and some spam-sale accounts got banned.

and i almost got banned from an online game. one of the guys workign there ... i know he wanted to turn my blog into his boss as evidence against me. only problem was the content was password protected and the only way to get a password was through me. and um...yeah, i was too clever to give one to his friend who "innocently" asked me for one.

side note... the accounts here with a line through the name... banned?

Yup. Striken through names are banned. There aren't many.

o_O I don't recall ever seeing one. Now I gotta search through many subjects just to find one -_-.

However, I had a small feeling one poster was going to be banned, but he got better.

They also have 'Customer' as their title, I suppose the final insult really...?
