View Full Version : Fired...

I did NOT need this this month at all...

I got fired today. The reason was given as various miscommunications re: ebay pricing, shipping costs, etc. (wtf? all I was doing with the listings was what I was told). In a way I was ready for this due to various factors (the comment a few weeks ago of "we're not making enough to continue paying you", numerous insidious sabotage moves, etc). What makes me  is how during the entire lecture it was made out as if the failure was my fault (well, I wasn't being allowed to pull things out of the ditch and was in fact told to keep digging).

I find the timing...interesting. It seemed like we were finally going to abandon ebay and find another marketplace... To quote Egon Spengler: "That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me".

Eeeh, I did what I could (hard to make something work if it's constantly being undermined in the first place).

On a positive note, I can apply for a full-time tech position and not have to worry about hours...the problem with the game store was it didn't open until noon and my shift was midday, thus torpedoing chances for other jobs.

It's too bad that you got fired, but I hear ya as far as having better time for job hunts. In my experience, I applied to a few jobs and was interviewed at both McDonald's and the supermarket, though I really wanted the job at Blockbuster at the time. I chose the supermarket. When it became apparent I wasn't making enough money, I applied at the gas station across the street and WHAM, interviewed. Nice. :)

The real problem came in with my second gas station job. When I was working second shift, it was no big deal. But after I started working third, doing school at the same time, never really getting nights off, getting threatened and mistreated in general, never mind what was going on between me and my roommates...even when I was able to fill out applications, trying to find time for interviews was tough. Tougher still was I interviewed with about 5 different places over the course of maybe 4 months...and didn't get any of them. :(

Ironically, I quit without anywhere to go because I had it, and got a job not even a week later via my then girlfriend. :p Good times.

and got a job not even a week later via my then girlfriend. :p Good times.

Now... that sounds a bit ... interesting....:p

I got 'fired' once (apparently I was on 6 month probation - as a casual - without even being told!!). I was told they had to let me go cos they couldn't afford it. I wonder - was it because of the thousands of dollars you had to refund to clients because of the stuff ups you guys did??? (I was doing the bookkeeping .... Interesting to see cheques made out for $16,000 from the boss)

Good luck on the new hunt!! At least it seems to have made you move in the direction you would prefer to be going in

My then girlfriend had been working at a security company for a couple of weeks when she learned they needed 100 people FAST to fill a new contract they had just procured. She encouraged me to apply, I did, and there it is. :p

Dreamstalker, I know it sucks to get canned, but more if it's over something you weren't at fault for. BTW Welcome to the club, since I just got canned on Friday (couldn't come at a worse time now that I have a shitload of bills due soon). I'm glad you can apply for the Techie job. Good luck!

Yeah, the weird thing with this whole situation is that I wasn't really allowed to defend myself (admittedly, my brain was too busy trying to parse how I could be at fault for X, Y, and Z when I was only following orders).

In addition to the position I just applied for (I buy all my computer stuff at that store and send them a huge amount of business), I have apps open to Google and MIT (both support, the Google position is a temp gig but still).

I'm considering going back to my old bookstore, but it's not clear what their hiring situation is.

Remember, when asked about this job, just say, "I was let go because they couldn't pay me anymore." No one in the tech industries should have a problem with that.

I should also mention, if you have issues getting the new position, Robert Half Technologies has treated me pretty well for a temp agency. They deal with technology jobs, and around here, have a decent long-term placement rate. I have high hopes that my current place picks me up as a permanent soon. Good Luck!
