Last night I participated in yet another of our local cookoffs. My 13th. Obviously I love these things.

The theme was chili. I have never in my life made chili. But a recipe formed in my head, and with a little online research, I refined said recipe. And the final product impressed even me.

Four kinds of meat. Two kinds of beans. Eight different kinds of peppers. I went to TOWN on this. And as I said, I impressed myself.

And came in 2nd place. Which is freakin' awesome! Yes, I would have rather won outright, but 2nd place is freakin' cool. I only lost to the gator meat chili that someone else made. How do you beat gator?

Anyway, I was absolutely stoked, both with the final product and placing 2nd. Which means out of 13 cookoffs, I have placed 6 times. Three 3rds, 1 2nd, and 2 wins. Not too shabby for a guy who hasn't cooked professionally since 1987!

Sorry, I'm just stoked and going on and on. Feel free to ignore me. I would. Go on about your business. Nothing to see here. Move along. These are not the droids you're looking for.....

Congrats, as well, but beans? In Chili? In a number of locations, that would pretty much disqualify you.

With a bat, while someone else holds it down? :p

The only way I can think of is something non local, like roo or camel.

The other day, I made a grill cheese sandwich. That was an accomplishment for me. So, I told the girlfriend about it... and she said she'd let me make her one some day.

So yes, we're both cooking champions. ;)

Sadly, no. Between the cookoff attendees and my coworkers that I brought the leftovers to (I work just across the street from the bar where the cookoffs are held) there was nothing left. Sorry.

Once I put the notes I made together and actually organize them into a recipe, yes, sure. PM me in a week or so, and you'll get it.

Yes, in Texas that would get you hurt.

I'm from Arizona. Where we make fun of Texans. So go beans!

:D

Gator: tastes like chicken! :D

I *hate* chili though. Just the smell of it makes me want to :puke:

But congrats on your win anyway. :)

Sounds Yum-o-licious! Unfortunately, if it was very hot, I wouldn't be able to eat it. I'm a wuss :(
But TTO will take it as hot as you can make it! (and that sentence sounds dirty!)

Gator does NOT taste like chicken. It tastes like gator. Which is very tasty.

Ah, well. Maybe next time. :)

Add another tick mark to the list of why I am not the perfect woman for Jester . . . . .Yup I am one of those Texans.
When I make Chili I have been known to use beef, turkey, chicken and rattler. (I will have to try gator sometime)
And the second day leftovers . . oh my goodness . . .the turkey and the snake really take on the spices when left alone in the fridge overnight.

-When I have a chili party . . . I let people doctor it up their own way.
I have out spaghetti, rice, diced tomatoe, multiple cheeses, vinegar, sour cream, beans, fritos, crackers and hot dogs.

Sorry back on topic - Way to go Jester.

At our house cornbread has to be made at the same time as the chili. The cornbread must be split and buttered and then put in the bottom of the chili bowl with the chili heaped on top, with cheese and sour cream on top of that. Except for the oldest dd, she hates sour cream, the weirdo. ;)

Nobody's perfect.

But since I have dated women who went to the University of Arizona (I went to Arizona State), I am sure I could find my way to dating a Texan. No, they're not perfect.....but hey, the chili, even if it's Tex-Mex, doesn't sound ALL bad.
