I went outside around five pm today to get the mail and noticed the street was under water. Which is odd because the sky was clear. Also, this water was flowing down the street at an alarming rate.

Well, I followed the water upstream and found the source. My next door neighbor's backyard is underwater and so is part of mine. There was water gushing out from a spot right next to the road. My neighbor came out and told me the water people were all ready called. So, we chatted a bit and then noticed that the entire neighborhood was also interested in what was going on.

It was funny to look down the road and see everyone coming out to look at the road and then everyone either got into their car and drove up or walked up. Had several people bike up too. I haven't seen that many people out walking around since Hurricane Dennis hit us two years ago.

My sister called me on her way home and asked why the road was now a river. She had to get some help pushing her car because it stalled down the street where the road dips (there was about a foot of water there.)

Now the water people came up to the spot an hour later in their little truck. They put some cones down and looked at it for a bit. Then they left. They came back a while later with a backhoe. As the hours went by, more and more trucks have shown up. Now it sounds like they are jackhammering or something; I dunno--it's LOUD though. But I'll take a sleepless night in order for this to get fixed.

My mom came home and tried to get some water..."Why isn't the water working?!"

"Mom, there it is, flowing down the street..."

We have no water right now...and I'm thirsty.

About 20 years ago a part of the water main on our street broke. No flood, but an interesting geyser / fountain in a neighbors yard across the street. A man from the Water Authority came and shut off the main with something that looked like a tire iron with a wheel on top, then the backhoe came.

It shouldn't

We had that going on a couple of months ago. That night it froze. I come out in the morning to an ice skating rink in my driveway and the street.
I had to call my boss to tell him I would be a bit late. Right then I couldn't leave, since my car was frozen to the driveway in a 6 inch deep solid frozen lake.
Took us 3 bags of salt and the torpedo heater to get the car out.
