I post at ohiogasprices.com, and someone was relating a story of someone who thought they could steal gas.

This guy went to Wal-Mart, and he had a 5-gallon gas container in the bed of his pick-up truck. He went in, and when he came out, there were these punks who had swiped it and were emptying its contents into their gas tank! They see the guy, toss the empty container, and hop into their car and scram.

The guy caught up with them about a quarter of a mile down the road...the container had had USED MOTOR OIL that he was going to take to be recycled! These idiots had put motor oil in the gas tank!:roll::roll:

Try to save $15 and it's going to cost a LOT more for repairs, I can imagine!

hahaha. Oh thats wonderful. much better than the old wive's tale of putting sugar in the tank. That wont do crud to a modern car other than plug up the fuel filter...Not that i have direct experience about that....but anyhow.....

But used motor oil in the tank. Thats gonna get their attention. maybe not blow it quickly but definately make them easy to track.....

I'd heard replacing the oil with honey way a not fun idea.

I forgot to add, their car had broken down.

True story, too.

Sure bit them in the behind, didn't it?

Oh I have no doubt. A little bit of oil in the combustion chamber can cause quite a lot of smoke. I used to have an old truck that when the rings went bad before I rebuilt the engine I looked like james bond rolling down the street. A cousin of mine for the fun of it took his field beater and rigged a smoke emitter in the tailpipe to purposely give off these huge black or blue or white clouds of smoke depending on what he dumped in there (this was before we got old enough to realize that the EPA might not like that not to mention the local wildlife.) Of course he also had it rigged to burn the exhaust too....

But yeah a lot of oil in the combustion chamber can do some really spectacularly bad things to spark plugs, piston heads, valves. You know all the neat little things inside that make the car go......

The guy caught up with them about a quarter of a mile down the road...

At first, I was thinking, "Why is he chasing them? Does he want his used motor oil back or something?"

Then I realized: Right. He just wanted to be there to see what was going to happen.

Hilarious.
