At the moment, I am having a feeling of needing to go to the bathroom (to pee) constantly. I think it's been going for an hour or so now, maybe a bit more. It isn't just a slight feeling (it started as that), but now it feels like I am busting all the time. Even when I go to the toilet, straight after I get the feeling again. And once I go, I have this hard pressure down there. It doesn't burn or anything like that. But it wont go away.

What are the possible causes of this? And how can I make it go away? It's so constant that I'm finding it really hard to just sit here and type this without running to the toilet.

I am 99.99% sure I'm not pregnant, and if I am, then it has to be the world's smallest baby as I am fairly skinny, and I have no bump at all.

Please give me any suggestions, as this is killing me!

Sorry for the TMI.

Could be a urinary tract infection, possibly.
Drink lots of cranberry juice.

Oh yeah...and see a doctor. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply. There is no burning pain though, isn't that symptom of it? When I do go though, I get this enormous pressure, but no burning. I can hardly have 2 mins without going to the bathroom. I tried to call mum, who's a nurse but her phone is switched off. I don't know if I should try to prolong the time I go to the bathroom, but it seems to get to a point where I nearly wet myself (TMI again, sorry) if I don't go as soon as I need to.

There's usually pain and burning, but sometimes, it's just a pressure feeling.

Also, because people have different pain thresholds, what you might see as just pressure, another person might consider pain.

It could be a milder form, possibly cystitis, which is mainly in the bladder.

Yeah.. that sounds like either pregnancy or UTI.. oh and BTW.. Pregnancy symtptoms have been known to start as early as the first trimester which would prduce no bump.

If you feel REALY bad, hit the emergency room. You should talke to a doctor in any reguards.

Thanks heaps for all of your support.

I'm the kind of person who never really gets sick, so this is freaking me out a bit more than usual. I also draw dramatic conclusions, so the insane part of me (arguably the majority) thinks that I'm pregnant. However, I really don't think that it's possible.

When I pick up my boyfriend, we can go to the chemist and see what they say. Hopefully I'll be able to get in contact with my mum before then.

In the back of my mind also, I'm thinking how great it would be if I was pregnant, because it must have been a pretty damn good pregnancy if I haven't noticed it yet! But that wont be the case.

I just tried to speak to mum about it. I said "I think I might have UTI", she goes "Uhuh, can you order the pizzas for dinner?"

What great support she is. I hope she doesn't treat her patients like that.

It's almost certainly an infection, the other possibilities are less likely. Burning sensations are only one of the possible symptoms of infection in the area.

When you go to the chemist, pick up some continence pads. And a pack of adult diapers - you'll sleep better knowing that it's taken care of for the night.

Sounds like a UTI to me. It starts off like that, but if you leave it untreated, THEN the burning starts. And let me tell you, it ain't fun. Get some citrosoda (sp?) and drink loads of cranberry juice. If it doesn't get better over 48 hours, then you might need to see a doc.

Go see a doctor. Trying to diagnose yourself is a big mistake.

The symptoms you're describing are exactly the same as I have when I get a UTI. See your doctor ASAP, you won't like what happens next if you wait.

An alternative option : kidney stones. They started like that for me, as well. Get thee to a physician!

I get bladder infections so often that I can boil eggs to them, and that's about what they feel like. It kind of feels like a dull ache or something way down south, or almost like gas pain but in entirely the wrong spot. Usually I can just ignore it, but when my mom gets them, they lay her up. Depends on the person. (Though like Seshat said...sometimes things happen during the night. Protect your bed. )

Like Ree said, lots of cranberry juice. Though if you're like me and you think cranberry juice tastes like your mouth right after you barf, get a mixed juice, or they do sell cranberry pills in most department stores over next to the vitamins and supplements. I got a bottle of 60 for three bucks. For some reason, dissolving one of those in your mouth with a couple swigs of water tastes great! For me, taking five or six of those pills a day (two or three in the morning and two or three in the evening) clears things up in about two days. That might be a bit much for some people, though, so your mileage may vary.

Wouldn't hurt to talk to a doctor, though. (Unless you're me in which case it might hurt the DOCTOR, but eh.)

Added: I haven't had one since I've stopped having periods, and the doctor lady I saw regarding that said that it's perfectly normal for some girls to get them after periods or even after having sex. Wouldn't hurt to examine what you did during the days beforehand to help locate a cause and know what to do to prevent them in the future.

Some pharmacies/chemists carry home tests, if you don't have insurance, or if it's after doctor's hours. I started getting kidney infections during my pregnancies, so I keep tests at home. It's partially paranoia, but I've come down sick quite suddenly, so I'd rather not worry and I'd rather not sit in the ER or urgent care if I don't need to.

But, yes, it sounds like a UTI, specifically, one in the bladder, so get it checked. In the meantime, cranberry juice is good, but often you can't get it without a lot of sweetener added, so take that into consideration. I usually get cranberry pills, preferably capsules, instead of tablets, and keep those handy. Drink lots of water to keep your system flushing out.

Since this is your first time, you really should see a doctor, no matter what.

Go.to.the.doctor.

You will have to regardless....either now, or later after you ignored it for three months and it gets painful. I had a UTI once. You know what my symptoms were? Nausea, light headedness and dizziness. Nothing below the waist. Self-diagnosis does not always work. I had no idea that what it was.

Good luck!

Sounds like an UTI and it can be caused by several things, chiefly holding it too long for unnecessary reasons.

I'm prone to them because I don't listen to my body.

M: I feel faint and my stomach hurt..--woa.. the world's spinning.
H: when was the last time you ate?
M: ... um..
H: so?
M: ... four.. days ..ago?
H: GO EAT!
M: ack!

UTI and Doctor!

What color is the pee - if it's carrot orange you're deffo in trouble. Dark yellow? Possible trouble. Stinkier than normal? Trouble.

Get behind to doctor, if the infection carries up to your kidneys you're in REALLY deep shite.

Thanks again for everyone's advice. It has gotten heaps better overnight. I don't have to run to the bathroom all the time, the feeling of needing to go is still fairly constant, but it doesn't feel like I'm busting.

I went to the chemist and bought some wierd powder stuff to put in water to drink, and today I bought some cranberry juice to drink which is sitting in the freezer cooling down for me.

There is some more pain now when I do go, just afterwards for about 10-15 seconds the pain is really bad.

We have public holidays until Tuesday, but if it doesn't go away by then, I will make sure to go to the doctors as soon as possible.
