Though at first I didn't believe it.
Once my older sister B got preggo, my siblings and I threw a pool to see when her due date was (hell, even the neighbor joined in). Brother H said "Feb. 29", eldest sis L said "March 27th", neighbor said "March 21st as its a full moon"..... I quite firmly said "March 24th, because its Carlos' birthday." (Carlos was to be our second older brother but passed away due to congenital defects. Even though B and I were never present during that pregnancy as we were born after, our brother has always been in our hearts. B, mom and I are the only ones who remember his birthday and light a candle for him. :\)
So I get a call at 4:32 am telling me my sister went into labor at 2 am and all was fine but she had complications. Something about the baby having her first fecal passing inside the womb. Sister was rushed into OR then.
Side note: My brother Carlos passed away in similar circumstances. It was the 70's though, so C-section wasn't very comon and when mom got caught in traffic way in the boon docks because the river had overflowed during her labor, there wasn't much that could be done. Carlos was born at 5 am, his first breath having taken place in the womb (i.e. he inhaled ambiotic fluid). By the time they made it to the hospital, Carlos was having a hard time breathing on his own-- mom says his little body was fast turning purple. My brother had severe brain damage.
So, naturally, upon hearing that B's baby had undergone something similar, mom was panicking.
And I was TOO FAR ASLEEP to even realize this was not a dream.
I remember sitting upon the bed and going "Have faith mom. Have faith. All will be okay, I promise." proceeded by mom's hysterical, panicking sobs (she wasn't allowed in the OR at that point), my reassurance and the phone being cut off...
Naturally, when I woke up a few hours later, I couldn't shake the episode. I call mom to ask if I had dreamt it all or not. When she fails to answer my 13 calls, I freak out.
......
I just got an e-mail from the hubs telling me that :
Baby Demise was born sometime around 5 am Pacific on March 24, 2008. She is 6lbs 8 oz and is a whopping 19 inches long. She's hairy as a monkey (hah, take that sis for making fun of me!) and loud as her auntie (another HAH!) and just as hungry! (TRIPLE HAH!)
My sister came to about 8 and got to see her daughter for the first time. (She has a slipped disk so she couldn't be given an epidural. ouch) She'll be staying in the hospital for a few days....
Mommy and Baby are okay. :D
