Today at 12 NOON, my daughter Kelly will be starting school for the first time! :runaway:
I'm really nervous and scared and sad all at the same time. I'm also worried as heck. The school is a pre-school center for those with special needs in education. (Kelly doesn't talk but can solve her own problems like: "I want to hear the CD player play! I'll climb the 6 foot bookcase myself and turn it on!" or "I want the banana in the fruit bowl on the kitchen counter, I'll climb up there myself and get it!"). Yes, I know I'm being overprotective, but I'm going to be sitting in the hallway of the school today just to make sure she's okay. :o

Scary, isn't it? Just wait til she starts kindergarten!
Good luck- she'll be fine! (whether or not you will be fine is a different story)

*hugs* First days are nerveracking. I never went to pre-school of any kind in Russia and I know Mom cried sending me into first grade.
I would also tell you this....the age at which kids start to talk is a very wide range. My brother didn't start talking until he was about 3-4. I started at just short of 2. We were fluent at (him) 6 and me (4).

Actually, the preschool will probably have a room that parents can sit and wait in for the first day of school. When my daughter did 3K last year, they used an extra classroom, and all 14 moms waited.
Congratulations to you and your daughter!
ah the wonderful days of starting at noon, how i wish i could do that again :p
im sure she'll be fine, she was raised by you after all

Just wait until she's walking across the stage to receive her diplomia. Within the past year and a few months my oldest graduated high-school, completed her first year of college and graduated Army basic and AIT.
They do grow up faster than we'd like but we can't keep them little forever. When our youngest started kindergarten I thought I was going to have to have the wife committed.

Well, the school had me sit in the hallway (in a very comfy wing-back chair! LOL). I also wasn't the only parent there sitting in the hallway. There was one other mother (with her 6-month-old daughter) and a mother/father combo for another little boy that is in Kelly's class. Kelly was fine the first hour and then she started to scream and cry about 1 PM (right during lunch! ) But otherwise than that, she was okies. I did leave for a little while (when I'm upset and scared and nervous I feel the need to eat so I had a Big Mac for lunch - I'm packing my lunch today with lots of chocolate! LOL)
I'll be in the hallway at least for this week. I just worry and let me tell you, when the 3 hours was up, I was so relieved to have my little girl back with me in the car to go home!

No, no haircut for Kelly! I've begun to call her "Rapunzel" anyways, and then when it's long enough I'm using it as a ladder to climb up tower walls. Hehehehehe.

Also, this is Kelly's second day, and according to her teacher, she is doing really well (I only heard her cry and scream for 20 inutes as compared to practically all 3 hours yesterday - go Kelly!). The teacher's first home visit is tomorrow! They do this so they can help the parents to reinforce the things that have been taught at school will be continued at home. (Did that make sense?)
Plus, hubby called his mom and yelled at her 'cos of a lot of things that happened this past weekend AND because she didn't call yesterday to ask about Kelly's first day of school. Anyways, to make a long story short, We don't have to see any of the hubby's family for at least the next month, maybe 2!

Well, we got through Kelly's first week with a few road bumps. Thursday and Friday she had complete meltdowns (and on Friday, she wouldn't stop clinging to me even when her teachers came to get her to take her to the classroom).
Yesterday, I brought her in, let her play in the little gym area they have, and then I told her we had to find her teacher. Kelly & I saw one of her teachers (Miss Pam), and I pointed her out to Kelly. Kelly ran right to her, let her take off her backpack & then went right into the classroom. No tears, no tantrums, no ... no ... no turning back to at least wave goodbye to Mommy who is standing in the hallway watching her little girl be just a little more independent than normal.

My mom is still mad at me about my first day of preschool, and that was 26 years ago. You see, instead of being upset like most kids are, as soon as I saw the classroom down the hall with the door open I took off like a shot and was in there and having fun.
This is so not like me now, but I think it's hilarious that I'm still in trouble for it. (Not really, but you know what I mean.)
I'm glad things are going better for your daughter. I know it can be a difficult transition for any kid, special needs or not.
