View Full Version : Here's something you don't see every day....

I was tempted to put this under sucky customers, or sucky employees, but it really wouldn't quite.....fit. You'll see why in a moment.....

Anyway, my youngest niece called me to pick her up from school today, for various reasons. Being the Rockin' Uncle that I am, I of course obliged. On our way home, my hangover demanded to be fed, and as I had not eaten all day, I convinced Youngest Niece that it was a good time to get food. So we stopped at one of our local establishments.

Now, while we were munching happily away on our fare, what I guess is their house dog slowly wandered up. It kept inching forward toward us, looking at us expectantly. I guess she wanted some of our meal. But that just wasn't happening. I have nothing against dogs, but I hate when dogs beg me for food, especially when they are not MY dogs. Also, if you don't know the dog or its owner, you don't know what it can or can't eat, so from a pragmatic point of view, this would be ill-advised.

Eventually the dog got the hint that it wasn't going to get any of our tasty chow, and it turned to wander off. Slowly. And then stopped. And squatted. And peed on the carpet, not ten feet from our table.

ME:
NIECE:

Now, I know there aren't supposed to be dogs in restaurants/bars in this state, at least not inside ones (outdoor establishments have different rules), but the fact that they were ignoring this particular law/rule/whatever didn't bother me. I was slightly annoyed that they would allow said dog to beg from its patrons, and I was VERY disturbed that they would let a carpet-peeing dog wander around for all their patrons to see.

The server, when told what the dog had done, called the dog a "brat," but with the smile on her face that one would reserve for a favorite child who had done something somewhat wrong. No apology or anything, mind you.

Good thing neither my niece nor I are easily offended or have delicate constitutions....we both continued eating. But can you just imagine what would have happened if the dog had done that in front of an SC? Good lord! (No one else was in the dining room, so we were the only witnesses to this little event.....)

Jesus Christ, Jester. It would have been on CNN or BBC world news.

That was no dog; that was the cook.

I don't know...I might've had words with the owner of the establishment afterwards...

But that's just me.

Man, that's got to open up a whole world of health code violations right there.

I certainly wouldn't be eating there ever again.

^-.-^

Actually, Andara, the food was pretty good, and the dog wasn't in the kitchen, but out in the dining room..........I dunno, it was bad, but trust me when I tell you that I have seen some kitchens that nauseated me far worse than this situation.

You've managed to crack me up twice inside of three minutes.

You'll be lucky if a little dog piss on a carpet in a restaurant is the worse thing in there.

My guess is the dog was expressing its displeasure with you for not having paid it appropriate dietary tribute. ;) It's not such an uncommon thing, actually - some pets will pee/poop to show their anxiety or aggression with others.

Still pretty gross though. And funny, in that demented sort of way.

Yep. This may be slightly or wholly :ot:, but whenever me and my fiancé go out together, same goes with the two of us and his mom (she lives with us), we always come back to find that the dog "dropped bombs" on the living room carpet.

As for the dog peeing in the restaurant, thankfully that was in an outdoor-ish venue. All hell would've broke loose if that happened in front of an SC.

I'm siding with Andara on this one. Yes, I love my dogs and my wife will bring the service dogs into restaurants but they would never do anything like that.

If the dog was a stray and it was INSIDE the restaurant then that is a major issue, even if the dog is someone's pet it is still an issue. You do not know how clean the dog is and it proved to have bad dog manners (begging).

Heck, that even opens up a whole new set of doors, with that much food around there is a chance sometime the dog will challenge someone for their food and bite someone. Yes, he may be one of the worker's pet or "the sweetest dog ever" but those two things are always said about dogs right before they attack someone.

Actually, no. It wasn't. Totally indoor establishment.

The dog was not a stray, either. Very obviously (from the reaction of the staff to it) a mascot dog of the place, or some such.

Wow Jester, I must say you handled yourself a lot better than I would have. There are some things I have absolutely no tolerance for. Of course, you might want to consider a formal complaint against the restaurant, just for the sake of those who might not have as strong of a stomach as you do.

I would've been up in arms and I'm normally quite calm.

All hangover food needs to be greasy diner food, duh! ;)
