Did Mead do bad?

Just today, one of my co-workers get off and another one comes in to take over the shift. I was going to inform her that I was leaving a half hour early today, but as she is talking to our boss, I hear my boss clearly tell her "Mead is leaving half an hour early today." So I think that is that and forget all about bringing it up after that.

However, When it came to quittin' time, I get up and get ready to go. She gives me an annoyed look and asks me why I didn't tell her I was leaving a half hour early. I must have looked confused as I mumbled it was because I heard our boss tell her I was leaving early. She angrily informs me that it is just plain courtesy to inform coworkers about such things regardless.

So I dunno. Did I do wrong? Should I have told her anyway, disregarding that she already obviously knew? I thought I was being polite by not reiterating... I just felt it would be redundant. Like, "new cover sheets on the TPS reports" redundant. Opinions, anyone?

I don't think so. You overheard her being told you were leaving early, therefore she knows you were leaving early, and gets pissed because you didn't tell her personally, although she already knows? Damn, my brain hurts from just typing that. :runaway:

Heck, my coworkers in my department leave early without telling anyone else (I should add with managements approval of course). On occasion our supervisor might let us know, but it really is no big deal. I figure they are taking some personal time, thats really not my business. Even when were extremely busy it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

It sounds to me like your coworker just had a stick up her butt about something else.

She forgot, and is using indignation to cover her bad actions. She doesn't want to admit she forgot and had no reason to yell at you.

If the boss had told me that, I would have meandered over to you and double-checked. Not urgently at all, though. I've had bosses mix up times, days, and people, and I've had coworkers forget and subsequently miss/be late for some special event. So that's just one of my quirks now.

That being said, it's on you to let her know...once. After you know that she knows, you are excused from all further obligations. If she wants to double check with you, answer her question politely, of course, but there is no invisible rule telling you to double check with her. In short, you did good. No worries.
