So I recently got a car and am having lots of fun with it :) except for where I am able to put it at night!

background: My apartment building’s parking lot has around 30 resident [I think they are all taken] and 3 (yes, three) visitor spots which are usually full. The lowest level parking lot of the apartments next door has about 10 resident and 10 visitor spots. It is a short walk up the hill to my apartment on the ground level…

Obviously I don’t park in the resident spots, and none of the residents seem to mind my car being in a visitor spot. But the apt. manager did take issue when I parked down there today… He just happened to be coming out a back door and plainly said, “Next time I see your car here I’ll have it towed.” I replied, “No problem, I’ll move” and went back up and parked in my mom’s spot. Cuz, you know, when he goes back into the building will be the ‘next time’ he sees my car :p

I do understand that it is private property and I am technically trespassing. The apt. manager was justified in telling me to leave and I obliged without complaint. But when the visitor area is nearly empty, I get a little annoyed at the wasted space >_< To boot, the other day my landlord was parked down in the forbidden territory for whatever reason, and of course nobody batted an eyelash.

Guess I’ll have to go bug my landlord if there is just ooooone more space available for me? Just for 3 more weeks? Pleeeeeeeeze? lol :D

ahhhh this is a pet hate...I already posted about this problem..that one of the people living in our block of apartments took offence to us parking in her spot.....BUT I've lived here almost 2 months now I think...if not more (kinda lost track of time) maybe it's 3 now???? OK anyways...this is annoying because I see people just randomly parking in other peoples spots, park across peoples garages...in fact I've seen a few people (who definitely were not related to the lady) and I've not heard a peep out of her...it's annoying! VERY annoying!

But anyways, if you only parked in VISITORS parking you were NOT trespassing...you could have clamed you were a visitor...you were not trespassing at all! Next time (if there is one) the manager of the place tells you that he will tow your car if he sees it again, say he will...because you visit your friends there all the time, and seeing as your parking in VISITORS parking, your NOT doing anything wrong, and if he has it towed you'll have him charged for the towing (yes you can do that) and you will have him sued for the inconvenience he has caused you  that'll shut him up

Thanks for your input, Binky...

Today I did ask my apt. manager if there were any spots available for me. She said there wasn't but the business across the street has been letting people park in their lot after hours.... Not sure how I feel about my car being left where it's a little harder to get to... I live in a pretty safe neighborhood and my car isn't THAT flashy but I just don't want to take any chances.

I even composed a short letter for the apt manager next door...

Dear Sir:

I am writing to ask permission to park in your visitor lot temporarily. The (apt complex where I live) lot is full and those visitor parking spots are not always available, while there has always been spaces open in your visitor lot.

I understand that this is private property but I would appreciate if an exception could be made for me until Sept. 30. I have a silver Infiniti G20t, license plate 111XXX.

Sincerely,
(Cyan)

Should I find out his name and putting "Dear Mr. XYZ" instead of 'Sir' before mailing it..... Any thoughts?

I think the option that you have chosen, is probably better than the "advice" I gave before. If the manager doesn't reply or says no, go to the building and knock on the doors of the residence (as many as you can) and ask THEM if they mind you being there, get their help, in reality, as I said, they are visitors spots, and if the residence say you can be there, you can, because thats what the spots are there for, for THEIR visitors. The manager can't tell you to leave if you are their with the approval of the residence because the spots are their for them to use if they have a spare car or have friends/family over, if the manager tows your car you take it up with the police, I just hope it doesn't come to that. And at the same time you might make some nice new friends :D and thats always nice

Now I would never do this in reality but it would be pretty funny to go SC-style on his behind:
"Whaddya MEEEEEEAN I can't park here?!?! I want to park here RIGHT NOW!! I want to speak to YOUR manager! I am being SO inconvienced here! You are not being helpful at all! Your mother was born of a rabid goat!! -etc-"
