Well, I just checked my email and found something interesting in my inbox.
What's that? I've inherited over $15 million from someone I've never heard of, much less met? You're in Scotland you say? I have no idea how I've ever come into contact with this person since I live in Mishawaka, IN.
Wait, the email came from an address from ecu.edu and "Daniel Smith". not a .uk address or someone listed as Edward Kennedy. You want me to reply to Edward Kennedy at a g-mail address? Wow, I would figure a lawyer you represented someone with over $15million to leave in a will could afford some sort of hosting for his own domain and website. Ohhh, I see the web site is "Under reconstruction".
Yeah, I laughed for a few minutes, then I replied and asked him exactly how dumb he thought I was, and then I forwarded it to the IT department at East Carolina University.
Idiot.

Wow, that's intelligent. Attempted fraud, while still in college, by using your school email which has your name on it. I'm going out on a limb here, but I believe this person to not be an A student. If the school doesn't kick him out, they'll definately ban his computer access and e-mail account.

It never stops amazing me how much dumb stuff people do with their student emails. There is the question though of if this is a student or faculty email. Our student emails have .stu in them.

It's probably not a student or teacher sending those - it's probably a hijacked open relay at the school.

Or just spoofed the email address but traditionally a .edu is not what people spoof them to.

I went into the school directory and it listed him by first, middle and last names as a student, including the email address that the email came from. I'm just wondering if I'll hear back from the IT dept.

The don't assume you, specifically, are stupid, just that they will get a few stupids on their big list of targets.

I'd also inform the campus police about this. The officers there would be very very interested to hear about this. That student would probably not be enrolled much longer.

I'm just suprirsed that people still fall for this.
I still think the one my cat got was the best though.

Oh... do tell...
And as above, yeah, I'd suspect the email address has been hijacked - I had that once (fortunately, it was only Ebay).

Let me pile onto the hijacked vote. Or, his computer is part of a zombie-net.
