So what is probably one of my favorite sports rivalries is back. Detroit Red Wings (YEAH!!! WHOOO HOOOOOO!! GREATEST ICE HOCKEY TEAM ON EARTH!!!!!) vs. Colorado Avalanche (SCUM! LOSERS! WUSSES! STOLEN FROM QUEBEC!) is happening again.

Ice hockey fans will know this rivalry, started when an Avalanche player (Claude Lemieux) literally bashed a Red Wings player (Kris Draper) into the boards hard enough that Draper had to have his jaw wired shut for five weeks. We lost to them in that playoffs 12 years ago, the next year we came back and we showed them who's boss and won the Stanley Cup. And we showed them who can get physical too in that year.

Tonight's the first game, and this is going to be great. Fights have broken out between us in the regular season games this year and this series looks awesome. Forget about Crosby. Oh and Boozy: LOL SENACHOKES!

The fight that capped it off: http://youtube.com/watch?v=C7DlAjrhm9s

AND WHO THE FUCK ARE COLORADO?!

I'm right there with ya, darlin'. I have my dvr set tonight on VS. :)

Go Wings!

I'll never forget Ozzie and their goalie fighting it out at center ice after the Lemieux/Draper incident. I can't think of his name, but he was ALWAYS getting arrested for beating up on his wife. Dickhead.

SOMEone needs to switch to decaf!!! ;) :p

The hockey fan in me knows that this is going to be a great series no matter who prevails (as a Canucks fan, I'm not about to take sides here, since I'm still in mourning). Playoff hockey is some of the most intense competition anywhere, hands down.

The mod in me reminds everyone who might not know good-natured teasing when seen in print to please refrain from getting too heated in here. :)

With that said, let the next round of the playoffs begin!! Wooooo-hooo!!

Puck, I don't drink coffee. :D

And just for the occasion I changed my avatar to the greatest hockey team in the world.

That would be Patrick Roy (pronounced "waaaaaaaaah!"). Helluva good guy between the pipes, but a little less impressive IRL.

Thanks, that was bugging me.

And true. Gorgeous blue eyes, but mean lookin'. I wonder if his wife ever left his sorry ass. :(

I'll gladly take sides. I loath Detroit and hope you go down in flames. :p

Philly too, I loath Philly. I don't like Montreal but I hate them less then Philly. So I have to go with Montreal, Colorado and Dallas ( Meh, San Jose. ) for this round. As for the Penguins and Rangers.....I'm not sure it's possible for me to care less about either so I have no opinion there. -.-

If his did, I hope she took Natalie Brodeur with her...another good-lookin' goalie who done his woman wrong (in this case, he cheated on her).

Cheering for Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia, Colorado or Dallas will cause me to burst in a giant bubble of visceral goo, so those are right out, which pretty much leaves me with San Jose and Montreal. Basically, once the Canucks, Devils and Flames are out of the picture I pretty much go back into my cave until the Cup finals. :p

Bah, the ONLY games that matter are the Rangers/Penguins game (most important, Rangers shall destroy them), and the Flyers/Canadians game (because I want to see Philly win so the Rangers can kick the crap out of them in the Conference Finals).

As for the West...who really cares? Honestly.

I wore my signed Steve Yzerman jersey once...

1. downtown Chicago

2. a few blocks from where the Blackhawks play

3. at a sports bar

4. after the wings had just stomped them (typical occurance) :)

I'm frankly surprised I lived to tell about the experience.

Well, regardless of who wins, I just want a good game. I'm looking at you Colorado. Talk about choking. Least they're starting to play now.

I hate "choke" games where one team just collapses utterly. I want a good, solid game. Thats why the playoffs this year have been so good. A lot of the series have gone to 6 or even 7 games. Colorado/Detroit will probably go to 6 at least.

The Montreal/Philly game was pretty boring in the first period there. But its actually getting good now.

<-- Trying to watch both at once.

If its any consolation, my dislike of Detroit is nothing compared to my abject bitter loathing of Philly. They're a nasty team and the fans are always such assholes ( They booed their own team off there a few days ago for daring to lose a game ).

Every real hockey fan who knows that Red Wings - Avalanche >>>>>>>>>>> ALL North American sports rivalries.

And the rest of this post will be in white (Highlight to reveal basically) for those who want to see the game and not know the score. Please do the same.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! 4-3 RED WINGS! Nothing more than a resort state Colorado! Can't even beat Osgood who by the way is better than Roy. 4-3, SUCK IT AVALANCHE FANS! WE'RE DETROIT AND WE'RE THE BEST! WE'RE DETROIT SO FUCK ALL THE REST!! :p

4-3!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Nice of you to come out and play Colorado but you lost!

Dear Calgary:

I love you guys, I really do. I've loved you for the past 17 years. I'll love you guys for the next 17 years. I've bought your jerseys, coffee cups, hockey pucks, license plates, and shitty Christmas ornament. I was on the Red Mile in 2004.

But why do you have to fuck with my emotions? You tried so hard, played so well, and then let your goalies get shelled for 4 goals in under 9 minutes and collectively forgot how to shoot a puck. Not cool guys, not cool.

Yours in the C of Red,
Spiffy McMoron

Calgary drives me nuts. When they're good, they're good. But its so completely random. Sometimes they're awesome, sometimes they suck tragically. There's not much in between and it can vary from game to game, period to period.

Drives me nuts. ><

Well, Montreal pulled a fantastic win out tonight. But Colorado deserved to lose playing like that. Even though they did claw their way back some eventually.

I do like Osborne, poor guy is seriously under appreciated.

Hasek is a space bat though. -.-

Spiffy, I have found your English soccer club that is just like Calgary:

Middlesbrough FC! A club that, on a good day (Against really good teams, GRRRRRRR) can be very tough and hard to beat yet roll over against teams that can be easily beaten. That is definitely your team.

With apologies to Spiffy for the plagiarism, but I couldn't resist:

Dear Vancouver:

I love you guys, I really do. I've loved you for the past 15 years. I'll love you guys for the next 15 years. I've bought your jerseys, caps, hockey pucks, toque, and shitty Big Foam Finger. I was in a bar on Robson during the '94 Cup series screaming my lungs out and alienating my entire country.

But why do you have to fuck with my emotions? You play well one night, and then let your goalie do all the work the next and collectively forgot how to shoot a puck. Forechecking involves movement out of your zone, by the way, and generally it's a good idea to keep at least one defenseman in the same latitude as your goalie...just a suggestion. As glad as I was to see Marc Crawford go, I'm beginning to wonder if the problems aren't on the bench rather than behind it.

You're better than that, guys...time to start acting like it, mmkay?

Sincerely,
Your Last Surviving Fan South of the Border

That was the worst hockey game ever. The Rangers gave up three of the worst shots ever. And they stopped playing defense in the third period.

Call me biased here, but I think he'd prefer Liverpool: same color kit, and they either play stunningly well or race to trip over their own legs and crap all over the pitch. Either way, much beverage consumption by the fans as well as catchy audience-participation singalongs. From what I've seen of Calgary fans, that's definitely more fitting. :D

NOOO! The last thing I need is to lose someone to that God awful You'll Never Walk Alone crap. Try Chelsea, we have the most profanity in our songs, and we're known to be a bunch of crazy bastards. But for crying out loud anyone but the scousers.

I'm rooting for the pens to off the rangers simply because they took down my devils. Haven't paid too much attention to hockey in the past 5 years, but I have caught a few games at the bar recently. So...it's out of hate for Colorado (I am a Cornhusker after-all) and a good show by the wings that I'll throw my hat in the ring with Detroit.

GO WINGS!

And even better,

Chelsea 2, Man United 1!

Love it!
