A little while ago, I had to do the sexual harassment training at work. The only good part is that it gave me ideas of things to do after work. Anyone have any good stories about this?

At my job, we have the sexual harassment training on line and get a certificate when we complete it. I asked if the course was a "How-to" class. :-)

Yeah, I had to go for Sexual Harassment Training, too. After working with early 20-something guys for 4 years at the Green&White place, I don't need it! :p

Last time we had SH training, all the guys kept repeating the "no-no"s as shown on the video verbatim. For weeks

As far as I know, we don't have SH classes where I work, but some people seem to need it.

We have annual training, online, and we get a certificate. Yea! Sitting in a conference room watching videos is the worst.

We get diversity training, (covers all sins). I now have an online training package to complete, in addition to the 2 days training last year etc...

Y'know, I say the comic in the first post and was about to do the old, "Good comic, but we don't allow people to wander off with another person's copyrighted work," routine, but then I realised it's yours :p

They did it at my job, and it was the biggest waste of time and insult to my intelligence I can imagine.

No one was taking it seriously, which royally pissed off the instructor. The woman next to me mentioned that she was 70 years old, and that she wasn't about to harrass anyone, and no one was going to harrass her.

Then they showed a short film about what constitutes harrassment, including a wonderfully-acted  scene where a guy wolf-whistled at a female coworker. What was this, the 50s???

About the only thing I learned was that I apparently sexually harrassed the guy who cut me off at the light on the way to work that morning.

I've asked our HR department if we can have this person speak at our next diversity training session.

I always liked to comment about these types of things with a "so since common sense can't be used -- you need to teach us to be racist, sexual pigs - so we won't be racist sexual pigs?"

As bad as it seems, the videos taught me new things and phrases that were sexual that I never knew before -- other things were so obviously wrong that, well, no one would even think of doing it (let's just say it involved batteries, something that was 14" long and it bouncing around a desk).

At orientation at the factory, we got to listen to a 45 minute spiel from the HR rep (who in turn told a story about how he was once guilty of sexual harrassment) and then we watched a movie that had to be from 1985.

It was your typical 80s setting....an office with all female secretaries with over-padded shoulders, a male boss making passes at the girls in their skirts and nylon stockings, then a scene with a bunch of construction workers harrassing a smaller guy.

I was the only female under the age of 40 in an office of a machine shop for 3 years.

Suffice it to say that the majority of those guys would probably respond with "Oh, we're not allowed to do that?" to most of the points in a SH video.

I'm eternally grateful that I don't work in an environment where they even consider any of these "training" sessions.

Hell, we regularly swap dirty jokes, and the bossman is the resident 'dirty old man.'

I can't believe I forgot what we were told at my SH class.

According to the feds, no matter what the content, all graffiti is considered sexual harassment. Nobody can figure that one out. :headscratch: Just remember that when you're driving down the street and you see something on a wall, street sign, etc. I just want to know why they aren't prosecuting taggers for it when they're (seldom) caught.

Sexual harassment? Isn't that when you're having intercourse with a lady friend, and someone sneaks up on you and tickles your balls from behind?

Dammit! You beat me to it :p
...and now the Sexual Harassment Panda song is in my head now...

One of my college friends told me something about one of the local hospitals. Anyone want to guess what statute number Sexual Harassment is listed under in their employee handbook? Yep, 69. Not sure if it was intentional or not...but I thought that was funny as hell!

At my orientation I had to sign a few forms about sexual harrasment in the workplace and was told "We take that sort of thing VERY seriously here...."

A few days later when i tried to talk on the walkie after grabbing a bite out of a demo on the floor and the same supervisor promptly told me to "get that dick outta yer mouth before you speak!"

I just remembered a sign one of my coworkers had a sign up at his desk:

"Sexual harrassment isn't a problem here. It's one of the benefits."

This was back in the early 90s. That probably wouldn't fly today.

One of my friends had a similar sign in her office in the 90s:
"Sexual harassment is allowed; however, it will be graded."

My current job with the last few consisted of watching some cheesy-ass video from corporate about sexual harassment.

Shortly after Pfizer's Magical Blue Pill (V...) came out, an acquaintance was slapped with a sexual harassment charge for having a jar of blue M&Ms on his desk.

I rather suspect that wasn't his only transgression and that he probably was somewhat objectionable, but still...

I don't mind having to go through sexual harassment training. But my problem is that it's too damn long. What they spend over an hour on can be reduced to the following spiel:

"Don't make others uncomfortable. If someone says you're making them uncomfortable, just be cool and knock it off. If you think the other person is being unreasonable, schedule time with HR so we can work it out. You can report sexual harassment to any manager and above. If you're a manager, you are required to report any sexual harassment cases to HR even if the person who told you doesn't want to make a 'big deal' out of it. Thank you, now go to lunch."

My sexual harassment training could be simplied to two sentences: "Use common sense: if it's sexual in nature leave it for home. If you're uncomfortable about something tell the person to stop, if they don't report them. "

Either I've seen that before.... or it was actually used by one company I was at -- can't say for certain; but it was about as useless as ones I've seen.

I teach a class which consists mostly of young Eastern European men whose English is good enough for them to crack the occasional smutty joke (usually something about girls in bikinis when we're discussing holidays  ). It's part of the fun, never anything OTT.
Not sure if this counts, but it's bloody funny. One of my co-workers goes to a gym which has a pool, and she wears a bikini when swimming in it, as one does. However, she didn't realise that one of our younger students (17/18) is a member of the same gym, and also likes to use the pool. Now every time he sees her, he gets that 'saw teacher in a bikini... ;)' look. IMO, a good excuse not to go swimming. :p
