I imagine a few have been waiting for this update. I have indeed finally moved out of my apartment and have moved in with EQ and her b/f as of today. Though it was very difficult for me and quite a stressful day and was practically a nervous wreck throughout the whole thing but its over with now.

Darrien, the ONLY way to deal with this woman is NOT to deal with her. If she sees you, she'll start something. If she receives any communication with you, she'll start something. Manipulators are persistent little fuckers who just don't let go - that's one reason why they're able to continue doing it for so long, because some are all too capable of twisting things around so that the other person starts to have doubts, thinking "Maybe I've been unfair," etc. They don't let up once they've got their hooks in someone. ANY contact she has with you, she will interpret as a sign that she can still use you. Don't let her do it. Don't call her, don't email her, don't text her, don't write to her. It's a huge shame that you miss the dogs, and I sympathize with that, but your wellbeing is paramount here, and she's using the dogs to get to you. It's imperative that you stop thinking in vague "someday" terms and cut it off NOW.

"What about my stuff at the apartment?"

Excellent question. Go over there one day, preferably when she is not home if you still have a key, and get EVERYTHING THAT IS YOURS in one shot. Then leave the key with the apartment people. (More on this later.) Anything you leave behind, let her deal with it. Don't help her move any of her shit. She has given you enough grief, don't give her a chance to give you more. "But she can't move this or that without help." No longer your fucking problem. Get what is left of your stuff and never go back.

"What more did you want to say about the apartment?"

Go to the apartment management people, alone, and tell them all that has happened that pertains to the lease. Make it real clear to them that, if you have to, you will pay your share of the rent for the remainder of the current lease, but 1. you are not signing on for another one, 2. anything she says you said they are to disregard, 3. they should only listen to you for what you are saying, not her, 4. give them your key, tell them you are done, 5. tell them if there is any security deposit coming back, you are to get half, and for them to give it to you directly not her. If they won't agree to all this, then just pay the remainder of the lease (your half) and have done with it, accepting that you may have to give up your share of the security deposit. It sucks, but oh well.

"Well that's great, Jester, but what about all the other stuff she's done or has threatened to do?"

That is where your friend the restraining order comes in. If you can document as much as you can of her threats. If she vandalized your car, fill out a police report, including who you believe did it. Save any threatening voice mails, emails, letters, notes, etc. Get notarized statements from your friends who witness any verbal threats. Get all this documentation together, march on down to the local court house, and ask where you go to file a restraining order against someone. They will be more than happy to direct you. And do that at your soonest, earliest convenience.

"But a restraining order is just a piece of paper."

Yes and no. In and of itself, it will not prevent her from threatening, harrassing, vandalizing, or even directing violence at you. HOWEVER, once you HAVE the restraining order, if she violates it, she can be arrested and may have to explain things to a judge, which is not as easy as explaining things away to her friends.

"What about the dogs?"

This may sound cruel, but fuck the dogs. She is keeping them by whatever agreement the two of you came to, so resign yourself to the fact that they are no longer a part of your life. Move on, get a new dog or two, whatever.

"What if she fucks up things with my new lady friend?"

Cut her off at the past. Tell the New Lady everything about Crazy Ex, including that she has tried to seduce you AND has threatened to tell New Lady bullshit stories about you and about you and her. Tell New Lady you hope that Crazy Ex won't bother her, but that it is a possibility, that she is nuts, and that you are so glad to have met someone wonderful like New Lady. Hopefully she will be understanding and willing to stand by you. If not, well, just like with the dogs, there are others out there. And this is coming from someone that has not had even a SNIFF of a date in about a year or so.

Is this harsh? Yes. And I do not mean any offense by any of it. I am pulling for you, and hope that you can in fact get a fresh start, and don't fall back into the cycle that so many people do. But if you don't take control of your life, no one here or anywhere else, being nice or rude, using kid gloves or hitting you over the head--NO ONE ELSE can change things. Only you can.

I still think he needs to inform his boss that his ex- is crazy and may try to do something. At the very least, if she follows him to work, Security can keep her out of the building.
