View Full Version : More Digi Art

Gravekeeper's digi painting inspired me to break out my old graphire tablet and try and get back into some artwork and photomanips. I've kind of gotten away from it in favor of writing and I'm finding I'm pretty rusty.
Anyway, I did this painting based on a photo of my dog Red. Lemme know what you all think. And by 'based on', I mean, the painting was literally done ON TOP OF the photo.

I like it!
In fact, I like it so much I wanna smoosh the pup in hugs and kisses. :p
I'm such a dog-person.

Thanks guys :) I'm going to go back over it and do some more detail work. What I really need to do is work on my sketching. I'm finding I'm insanely rusty where sketching is concerned.

I'm the reverse, insanely rusty with painting but kept up with sketching.
Looks good though, is it water, oil or acrylic?
You should get a Cintiq too. They are delicious. ^^
On a side note, "inspiring" is not a word I would apply to myself.

It's 'default' *laugh* I'm still re-learning the program and haven't got into adjusting the paint-type settings yet. I believe it defaults to oil.
So we need to partner up. You do the sketchings and I'll do the paintings :D
I really like my graphire. I will probably get a Cintiq in the future (they are pretty sweet) but at this point I can't justify getting a new tablet when I have one that works well enough.
And Gravekeeper, darling...there are many words that you would not apply to yourself that the rest of us would :D

Okay, I added some more detail work last night and this morning. It's still not QUITE done but another hour should do it. Unfortunately, I had to stop and go to work *gag* *laugh*
Any thoughts or suggestions on improvements would be helpful!

They're a Godsend. I don't know how I managed without a Cintiq before. -.-
Plus I can lounge in bed and watch movie or play games on it <cough>

I warned you I give blunt, honest critiques. So:
/begin brutality
The detail brush you used was too small pixel wise and/or doesn't look like it had any opacity/antialias. So the detail is making it look more like it was done on a computer. It's not bad per say, but it's lost the illusion of traditional paint because now I can clearly make out pixels on the detail lines and I immediately think "That was done with a computer". It looks like a painting that's been touched up digitally.
Running it through a very mild blur or similar image filter to break up the stark pixel line contrast would probably get rid of it.
/end brutality
Don't hurt me. -.-
What software are you using?

*laugh* I wouldn't hurt you! That's exactly what I wanted...honest critiques with helpful advice.
I will play with filters and blurring when I get home :D I also want to do something more with the background...maybe even just use a darker color. The blue is ok but its not doing it for me.
I'm using Adobe Photoshop.

Ah, I have Corel Essentials. It bites for image manipulation but it can reproduce practically any art medium or tool flawlessly. Even crayon. -.-
Cintiq owners get 50% off Photoshop though. Amongst other software...

:D I could say so many things to that statement, so I'll be good and just smile.
Ok, I'm 'finished' barring any advice from you guys.

There you go, you nipped the pixel problem and added some interest to the background with out it overpowering the subject.
Very nice.

I'm by no means an expert on the subject nor remotely talented myself.
I'm just really anal about critiquing my own art/writing and have the ability to spread this misery to others.
