View Full Version : Soo...virtual tornado watch party?

Lil Bunny
05-30-2008, 12:25 AM
I got the beer and the spaghetti mix. Shall we watch the th'orms roll in together?

And I can't get dad on the phone. They don't say it but my home town has a tornado warning going as well. I'm sure everyone is fine but man...:(

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 12:48 AM
I have the warnings a lot down here in Houston though I've never heard of them actually touching down (though I may be asking the wrong people. *shrugs*)

I have a bunch of crackers and sodas. Turn up the radio and have a listen because the storms are rolling in.

blas
05-30-2008, 12:54 AM
I like to stand on the porch and have a smoke or two.....unless it starts raining sideways or Sheriff is out in his hip waders harassing everyone, trying to convince everyone a tornado has touched down......the best part about last Sunday was it was hailing and he was walking around picking up pieces of hail and looking at them. Idiot.

It's gonna storm tomorrow....I have extra chairs.....who wants to come over?

Lil Bunny
05-30-2008, 12:54 AM
OH we just need someone with cheese now!

Houston gets pretty bad storms down there don't they? I remember vaguely being through what I thought was a doozy down there. Course that was Bay City but you know what I mean.

*Edit* Man Blas you should come out here tomorrow night. It's my hen party! Thought I'm thinking that it could be just as fun watching storms out there with ya.

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 01:02 AM
I'm told [houston] does but the worst storm I've seen so far was four hours of constant drizzling rain. But then I've only been here since this past November (the end of November at that) so I'm not familiar with all the regular weather.

I figure if it gets to be Hurricane Season down here then I'm making a trip to see a friend in Austin. :D

blas
05-30-2008, 01:04 AM
Someone needed cheese?

Oh I wonder where who on this board is from the dairy state.....

Lil Bunny
05-30-2008, 01:11 AM
LOL EQ and that's why I'm kindof glad why I didn't move down there!

I'm gonna have to leave the Wisconsin finding to ya Blas. Heh you know the people 'round here better than me!

Someone go poke Snap too. There's a blob in her area and I wanna know what's coming this way. ;) Then again, I suppose I could just text her huh?

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 01:12 AM
Hey Blas, I'd come over if you let me bring my slingshot to scare off Sheriff. :D

blas
05-30-2008, 01:15 AM
You bring the slingshot. I'm still waiting for my friend to loan me his deer shining light. My coworker offered to loan me her paintball gun, but I have a feeling that would get me in more trouble than anything else.

Maybe we could stuff his hip waders with big rocks so he couldn't run anymore. Ye gads, I could do the mile in 7 minutes in high school....and that freak of nature can run 100 feet in less than 30 seconds wearing cowboy boots.

Everyone meet up around, say 3 tomorrow? My place?

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 01:27 AM
I'll be stopping in around 3:30, sure. :D Let me just get my Teleportation device up and running.

Lil Bunny
05-30-2008, 01:38 AM
LOL Pick me up too EQ? Sadly my mile was only around 8 minutes back in the day but I can always bring my skates. ;)

blas
05-30-2008, 01:40 AM
Oh don't worry guys, we won't be running anywhere :)

I'll lend you my time machine....if I remembered to bring it the last time I moved.

I have a basement in case things get too dangerous. But I must warn you, this place is really, really small.

dispatch
05-30-2008, 01:44 AM
Mono and I are safe here for the moment, but if something touches down we're screwed. 10 foot high glass windows all around the building, no basement, and a trailer park out back...I'm thinking whoever designed this building never had to worry about tornadoes before.

Blas, I'd love to come, but I'm not off until 6am and I have to be back here by 7pm, and I've heard the 80 through des moines can get crappy during daylight hours, not to mention the quad cities...rain check?

and I already have the cheese and crackers :D

I'm in New Jersey but I'll share my ice cream and cookies (S'mores sandwich cookies, yum). Hey, we've had a tornado or 2 in the last...well, OK I remember 2 reported in my 32 years...but one of them took out a rain gutter or a tree or something like that in the next town over from me... :D

Lil Bunny
05-30-2008, 01:56 AM
Dispatch, I'm now suddenly glad that I live in a crappy old brick building. ;)

I guess we're not gonna get anything now. Which in a way makes me a tad mopey cause I really wanted a good thunderstorm. I mean it's ok now with the thunder and the light show but it could be so much better. I don't want 'nados but you know what I mean.

Oh side note? There was one reported in South Central Nebraska right? Well technically it was 3 miles South and West of the town. LOL one of the family farms is 3 miles south and 2 miles west. Haven't heard anything yet. Crossing fingers. *headdesk*

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 01:58 AM
LOL Pick me up too EQ? Sadly my mile was only around 8 minutes back in the day but I can always bring my skates. ;)

Sure; just be sure to bring the booze. We'll be needing it.

blas
05-30-2008, 02:01 AM
Someone said booze? I got Dr McGuillicudy and lots of Bacardi and lots of juices to mix......and enough beer for a family reunion :)

tropicsgoddess
05-30-2008, 02:04 AM
I got the nachos! :D

dispatch
05-30-2008, 02:06 AM
and here mono and I were hoping for a warning so we could get paid to sit in a supply closet :(

I guess sioux city area has spotters out right now, but last I saw from NWS the watch is in effect until 2am. I told mono she should go storm chasing after work but something tells me she'll waste the opportunity...and here I am, stuck in this tornado deathtrap of a building until 6 :(

Lil Bunny
05-30-2008, 02:14 AM
Awww man that sucks! I'll have to drink a beer or two for ya. ;)

It always amazes me how really bad storms near us and then split to the north or south. Yeah we get crap but nothing near the other areas get.

Of course I do need to eat my words as I was on the 680 split when that one cell was RIGHT over us. Freaked me out but at least it didn't drop eh? Again, the advantages of living by the river huh?

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 02:16 AM
Odd, Bunny, I thought water attracted tornadoes?

dispatch
05-30-2008, 02:23 AM
yes, but downtown is right on the river and all the wind currents around the tall buildings detur tornadoes from that area.

I was in this place in summer of 05 when one was reported at 145th & harrison heading north, we're at 145th & f, my parents live on 145th & harrison and I can drive there to herte in 5 minutes  all was ok, though, but at the time quite a few people were beside themselves

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 02:25 AM
 And you wonder why people don't believe the weatherman anymore.

Amethyst Hunter

Piling on to the storm party. My area's supposed to get some big storms sometime this weekend. :( Which is why I hit Mallwart tonight and spent way more than I intended to (I completely FAIL at money), but at least I won't have to go out if it does turn icky (which I really hope it doesn't - rain is fine, freaky storms, DO NOT WANT).

I have peanut butter cookies too. And a T-bone steak. Yeah. :D

blas
05-30-2008, 02:35 AM
Now look what you guys have gone and done.......it's storming now. Although these are not forecasted to be strong....but tomorrow's storms are predicted to be really bad...

monolayth
05-30-2008, 02:37 AM
i joined this late.....darn work computer being tempermental and all.

but bunny he will be fine and dispatch haha, you have to stay while i am out of here in at 11:30 (its 9:36 now)

but yeah, the storm rolled in as i was eating dinner at a pinic table outside. I decided to go into the lunch room when i saw lightning.

I HATE YOU ALL!! YA JINXED ME!!!!! Friday (tomorrow) is the only somewhat sunny day for the next week and a half!

OH we just need someone with cheese now!

Someone needed cheese?

Oh I wonder where who on this board is from the dairy state.....

Not from the dairy state, but I do keep blocks of cheese on hand.

Weather Channel's on the TV now. Wow, there are a LOT of super cells going on.

blas
05-30-2008, 02:46 AM
You think that's bad? It's going to rain and storm all weekend. I only get Fridays and Saturdays off. I took Thursday and Sunday night off next week.....it better be nice out.

I just can't win. All winter I begged and pleaded for it to stop snowing on my days off. So now it just rains and storms on my days off! Last Friday and Saturday were the only Friday and Saturday it hasn't rained since late April.

Evil Queen
05-30-2008, 02:47 AM
I don't have TV at work; any supercells near me? (*crosses fingers and hopes*)

You're fine, EQ; H-town is partly cloudy becoming calm tonight per the National Weather Service

This is the one I was talking about! The cell I was caught in didn't touch down but there was strong um...circling of the clouds/winds/rain that hit us just as I got to the 80/680 interchange. I looked up through my sunroof and it was like a washing machine. LOL dummy me kept going and just drove until I was off the f'ing interstate. I'm sorry but if there's a 'nado I'm not gonna be stuck on the damned traffic place. Oddly enough I made it to Dodge (Lived off Blondo) before it got so bad I couldn't see to drive.

My boss just told me Sarpy county is under a tornado warning :D looks like we may get out sirens yet! stay close to the radio bunny!

I remember the storm in 2005 at Midlands Ren Faire, I was at the highest point in Pottawatomie county and there were 3 cells swirling above the large steel hangar/barn structures we were using for shelters

EDIT; it was the 04 faire of the midlands

Lil Bunny
05-30-2008, 04:18 AM
Wait was that the one that came on really suddenly? LOL if so I was getting hit on by the blond Toratuga Twin at the time and he was kindof offended that I ran off suddenly. ;) We hit up the ATM building for shelter at the time.

And sadly we turned it over to Adult Swim. I haven't seen anything on the web or tv regarding Sarpy but checking now!!

That reminds me, like my storm fighting Avatar? *grins* I had to with tonight and my corpse flinger status. ;)

I also heard earlier that the platte flooded, the town of platte center was being evacuated, and the elkhorn was at bank volume with 4-8 inches of rain expected tonight. Let's hope the residents of the affected towns are ok and properly insured

I live in Indiana and the storms are northwest of my area - weatherman says they are moving southeast so it's just a matter of time  I live alone in a second floor apartment and I am terrified of storms. Makes me think I might just want to go visit my mommy and daddy this evening. It's always better if I am not alone when it storms.:D

You guys are funny. I would be so freaked out if I lived out there. Hell, I'm freaked out on your behalf just reading the thread.

And Mono, I've slept with a 5-pound dog who manages to take up half the bed, and even sleeps with his head on the pillow sometimes, so I can totally believe that your 5-foot self can take up the whole bed. :D

Anyways, yay on me not being the only one who is short here. and honey I don't think you quite my size ~looks down at chest~ I havent seen anyone who did not have implants that have matched me.

but anyways, i am actually shocked i have not gotten any calls today about people needing roadside assisstance from the storms.

And for theose worried about us and all the storms, we are very used to them. that is why we are not that freaked out.
