I want saturday off. its REALLY short notice and I REALLY Want to go to an Event up in another city - I'd need all of Saturday off.

Thing is, I know its VERY Short notice. If the boss can't spare me, I'm FINE with that (A little sad, but stuff happens and I know its short notice). Thing is, with him and my other bosses, when I ask for something they usually give it to me - even if it seems to annoy them.

Should I ask for Saturday off? Its a chance to go on a short out of town trip to another city, and see my Grandparents for the first time in years. BUT... How do I ask so he knows that its 'Perfectly FINE if you cant' spare me boss!" Would that work? I've used it before and I always get the '*SIGH*. okay you can have that day off).

I dont know if I can switch shifts with one of the girls. I'll ask them, but since they all work weekdays (The same days as I anyways) it would be tricky. That and I'm training so I dont know all of their job.

Its a short shift that day - 4 hours, and I can see about coming in early monday to catch up on anything, or staying late Friday to get a head start on Saturdays' load.

What do you think? I really want to go, but I dont want to annoy or inconvenience anyone. I've only been there a few weeks too so....

ETA: I havent' asked for any days off since I started there (I noted when I started I liked wednesdays and monday evenings off, which is not a problem thus far), and I've been working hard, and aside from a few mistakes (Easily corrected) I /think/ I'm doing very well.

PS - I put this in the wrong forum. Doh! Can it be moved to Advice Sought please? Thanks!

Is this a new job? Different from the computer store job? That would mean that you have only been there a few months. If you think that they have been annoyed with you about some previous requests then you may be right.

Do you really want to risk a new job for this? Is it that important to you?

If you must ask, I would phrase it like this, "I know it is really short notice, and if you say no, I totally understand. Do you think I could get tomorrow off?" And be really cheerful and friendly when you say it.

If they say no, then no sulking or arguing, just a cheerful "o.k. no problem. Thanks anyway!". Just accept the fact that they could not accommodate your request on such short notice.

Thank you for the advice, even if it is late!

I finally just went cut to the chase : Hey Dan, if I came in REALLY early on Monday (The opening girls get there at 5:30. I usually get there at 8), can you spare me tomorrow?

He said without hesitation (or sighing, grumbling or anything ) sure! though he did remind me to give more warning.

I think I am liking dan. And no, I am not intending to do this a lot. No more major events until my August trip (Which he already knows about.)

In our office, you can ask for a short-notice vacation day. But I guess you don't have that option.
You can always threaten to cause a scene, if they don't give you the day off!:)
Good luck!
