than that he should go and see a chick flick in order to earn his mate brownie points with a female chum of his with whom he is sort of enamoured.

This afternoon is going to suck.

No idea - I took no notice. They're all the same.

Some horrific memories of the synopsis of the plot have surfaced despite my best efforts. Romantic comedy involving slot machines or similar.

What happens in Vegas??

I'm not touching that movie with a 20 foot pole.

I'm a chick...and I don't go for chick flicks of the romance-comedy type.....*chick pass is taken away*. Gimme a good comedy and I'm happy.

It's supposed to be a comedy :p

Turns out that since a certain couple, one of whom would be going, are not getting on so well, things have been postponed until I'm safely out of the area.

Bloody adults acting like children.

I deeply loathe chick movies.

With every ounce of my not inconsiderable being.

This may surprise some of you, but I like some chick flicks.

Please notice the key word "some." Trust me when I say I have never seen "Steel Magnolias" or "Fried Green Tomatoes."

That being said, I thought "Thelma and Louise" was brilliant. I enjoyed "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" immensely. And I freely admit to having watched and liked "The Truth About Cats and Dogs." And while I have no intention of seeing "Sex and the City," I could see watching "What Happens in Vegas." If it were, say, on cable. On a rainy day. When I had nothing else to do. And there was nothing good on ESPN, The Food Network, or Discovery Channel.

In other words, not ALL chick flicks are terrible.

Steel Magnolias was good. Lots of chick fights in it. :D

But I generally don't like Chick flicks either. I mean, ew? Gimme an action or comedy or even a drama anyday! Particularly if the Drama includes blood and gore! :D

Particularly if the Drama includes blood and gore! :D

I demand anime.

Or a kung-fu flick.

I DO, however, own The Truth About Cats and Dogs (John Cusak (sp?), I couldn't help myself).

But flicks like Save The Last Dance and all those other good-girl-falling-for-the-kid-from-the-wrong-end-of-town....yeah those piss me off.

Give me blood, gore, amazing martial arts, mecha, and Tennis and I will love you.

I'm fairly certain my chick card was suspended when I laughed at Titanic. My friends still won't let that go. Although my friends and I have made a deal, for every chick-flick that sit through and behave myself,( ie no laughing at any inappropriate moments, no mocking the charaters, no claiming to get sick at the really sappy-sacchrine-sugary moments, or yelling at the screen) they have to sit through a children's or cartoon or adventure movie of my choosing.

Um, John Cusack was not in The Truth About Cats and Dogs. The male lead was Ben Chaplin.

I'm fairly certain my chick card was suspended when I laughed at Titanic.

I went to see Titanic, but I wasn't there for the love story. I wanted to see how they were going to do the sinking!

(And yes, with that, I was very impressed.)

Ah, don't worry about me. I had a very balanced weekend.

Went to a wedding, and at the end of a long weekend helped a chap move out of his marital home due to a separation. That's why we didn't see the chick flick.

You're not out of the woods yet, Raps. There's always the DVD (though it's not as bad a fate as actually sitting in a move theater). Still, you were prepared to go through with it, and for that I give you props. You must really like this girl. I hope things turn out in your favor.

And to all you "single but looking" women out there, learn from this: If a male friend who'd rather have his fingernails pulled out one by one than see a chick flick, agrees to see a chick flick with you, there's a strong possibility he might want to be more than friends. Learn to recognize signs like these and you might not be single much longer ;)

As for me, I do like some chick flicks (When Harry Met Sally and Princess Bride are among my all-time favorites), but most I can do without. As for the current chick flick offerings, I'd much rather see Indiana Jones or Iron Man; one look at the leading men and you could say the movies definitely have a "chick" appeal to them

Okay, we could argue about When Harry Met Sally, but I know NO ONE that considers The Princess Bride a chick flick. It's a classic, and EVERYONE loves it! Chick flick? No way!

See I don't mind watching some chick flicks, though I do keep getting scolded by Lady for saying stuff like "and then they spontainiously combusted" or horrible stuff like that at the happy moments.

Sorry, but the title alone just screams chick flick. If the movie was released today and you knew nothing about it, would not your first thought be 'chick flick'?

A plot involving a beautiful princess and a dashing hero (bad boy on the outside, sweet and sensitive on the inside)? Every chick's dream.

Action, adventure, wit...this film has it all, but at the estrogen level, not the testosterone level.

Face it, this movie was made for women (and 10 year old boys). Overall: Chick Flick!

Um, not me. The decision was made to go mob-handed to the cinema, and as the only single (or almost not single) bloke there, I was the only person without leverage that could force me to watch it. I was going to go willingly for the sake of the love life of a chum.

I'm now safe.

Yes, if you didn't know what the movie was, the title does scream chick flick. But to anyone who KNOWS what it is, which is most people these days, it transcends both its title and its basic premise. In other words, while it could be confused for a chick flick by someone who knows absolutely nothing about it, it is not in any meaningful way actually a chick flick. Hell, I have seen men who wouldn't touch a chick flick with a manly leather-studded ten foot steel pole quote The Princess Bride and talk about it at length.

It is, in every sense of the word, a classic.

I will also admit to liking some rom coms. The Truth About Cats and Dogs, When Harry Met Sally, and several others are in my video collection.

I was required to watch 27 Dresses, What Happens in Vegas, and Made of Honour for work. All three are utterly devoid of character, charm and unpredictability. Why does no one make good rom coms anymore?

And I'm with Jester, The Princess Bride isn't a chick flick. Which doesn't mean the lasies won't like it.

Speaking of chick flicks, I saw something interesting tonight. Saw an ad for Sex and the City. To the best of my memory, I quote:

"Women love it! Critics love it! The world loves it!"

They aren't even pretending to TRY to appeal to men. Ironically, from what I know of both the show and the movie, they'd be far more likely TO appeal to men than some chick flicks that were marketed to the masses, like, for example, Maid in Manhattan.

Just a thought.

We had a staff screening and it was only girls who went to see it. But it is guys who sit in it when they're on shift and its quiet.

The only male customers I've seen are part of couples.

The volume of a cinema full of women chattering away before the film starts is deafening. I don't recall a film that has attracted so many women - Sex and the City isn't a chick flick, it's a chick blockbuster.

I don't even think I got my chick membership card.

Give me a Steven Segal movie any time, any day. I still have yet to watch the newest addition to my Steven Segal film library.

Chick flicks - I hate them. I've seen Steel Magnolias and I've been forced to see You've Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, & When Harry met Sally. I hated them all.

Give me a good musical (Gypsy is one of my faves) or Auntie Mame starring Rosalind Russell (it's a dramedy). Jet Li movies I love. Heck, give me a Uwe Boll movie, please!!! Anything but a chick flick.
