As I have mentioned before, my mother is currently being treated for breast cancer. About a year ago, she and my dad adopted a dog who had been abandoned by her owners at an adoption fair. They simply stuck her in a crate at the fair, turned over her medical records and left her. Mom and Dad found her there a few hours later and felt so sorry for her that they went ahead and adopted her. Lucy was so attached to my mom that she would have a major meltdown every time Mom would leave the house. She would lay by the door and cry so loud you could hear her from the street until Mom would get back. A couple of weeks ago, Lucy started getting sick and the vet said her kidneys were failing. Since she couldn't keep down food or water, Mom and Dad have spent the last week hydrating her by IV three times a day. Today, the vet said that there was nothing more that could be done and that it was time to put her down. Mom called me a couple of hours ago to tell me that they were taking her in at 5:30. She was crying so hard I could hardly understand her. Then, tomorrow I have to take her to chemo. I feel so bad for her and wish that there was something I could do to make her feel better. The worst of it is that the vet said that most likely the kidney damage came from her being abused (kicked whenever she was in the way) by her former owner.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum:( and your Dog. Losing a pet is hard and even harder when you shouldn't have lost them.
