My wonderful property manager has decided that we dont need our mailbox key....

the old teanets didnt hand them over with the building keys and despite us being here for 2 weeks he hasnt had a "chance" to chase them up for us, we have called every 2 days and asked politely for any updates (kyle calls because this guy flares my temper faster than gun powder) and every time he will call us back in a few hours to give us the keys

he knows our paycheques are sitting in out damn mailbox AND our new batch of cheques for paying bills... try explaining to the cable company that the cheque would be in the mail if our landlord would get off his ass

kyles already pointed out that its in breach of our tenancy agreement (we pay for the rental of our mailbox) and that we want some form of refund for the days we have been unable to access it.... this guy is as dumb as a post

I need that money and I need to pay our bills...why can you understand that nimrod!

ARGGGHHHHHHHHH:rant: Kiwi angry Kiwi smash!

I'd probably call a locksmith to replace the lock and deduct the aount he charged from the rent.

Around here the locks used on the mailboxes are simple enough, something you can pickup at a local hardware store or home improvement store. When we first leased our current office we had to replace the lock since. We got the lock at a local garden/home improvement store, and the mailman installed it for us in about 2 minutes. I would call you local postmaster and see what they have to say.

Go with the locksmith idea, but first post a letter (registered even?) to the landlord explaining that you have patiently waited, but it is now past a reasonable time frame, and that if you do not receive a key within five days you will hire a locksmith to change the lock and provide keys, and will deduct the locksmith fee from the next rental payment.

This way you're CYA.

I agree with One-Fang on this one, kiwi. This isn't a matter of the manager being dumb as a post, it's clearly a legal matter that need to be dealt with either by Mr Dumb As A Post or whomever hold his tether. Go over his head to the property-management company, and make sure to document everything (the certified mail idea is excellent). Contact Canada Post and see what they have to say about it as well. In the meantime it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea for you and Kyle to contact your employers and heve new paycheques issued - and sign up for direct deposit to your bank accounts, if possible, to prevent problems like this in future.

Keep us posted and good luck!! :)
