This actually happened a few years ago.

Customer A drops off a vehicle for an installation. He and his son go off to get something to eat.

I finish the car before they come back. Customer B arrives to drop off a car. We fill out the paperwork. He hands me his keys. He says: "Sometimes the key doesn't want to turn in the ignition. You just have to play with it a little bit". No problem.

I pull Customer A's car out of the bay, park it, lock it. I get into Customer B's car. At that point, Customer A and son return from their meal. I tell them, "your car is done; just let me get this one pulled in and I'll ring you up and get you on your way".

Customer A and son watch patiently as I fruitlessly try to start Customer B's car. I jiggle it. I turn the key upside-down. I play with the shifter to make sure the car's in "Park". Nothing doing. I can't get the key switch to turn.

"Sorry," I say apologetically to Customer A. "I can't seem to get this one started".

Customer A says, "That's because you're using my keys".

Atleast you didn't break the key in the ignition.
