We've been inundated with smoke and ash from the day fire (http://www1.venturacountystar.com/vcs/county_news/article/0,1375,VCS_226_5007139,00.html).
We live in Santa Paula and have been getting a buttload of ash from it. Have to keep all the doors and windows closed, etc, etc. But crap, we're all coughing like crazy and feeling like crap from it. Coming back from the dodger game last saturday we could see the flames at the top of the mountain burning orange as we came home. The foothills around here are stuck in a perpetual haze of smoke, on monday you couldn't even see the hills (about 2 miles from where I was at work).
And they say that we are supposed to be getting santa ana winds starting tommorow and lasting thru this weekend. For those out of the area (probably just about all of ya) santa ana's are winds blowing from the east to the west coming across the desert. We normally get onshore winds, coming from the ocean and bringing the marine layer and higher humidity with it. The santa anas are also stronger winds and can really whip the fires around. This was a problem about 2 or 3 years ago with all the fires from ventura area to san bernadino to san diego area, as well as about 10-15 years ago when the fires went from thousand oaks to malibu.
Now can someone pass me that damn cough medicine....
