Have any of you ever seen something and thought "Who thought this was a good idea?"

Here's mine:
Today while driving past an outdoor mall, I was reminded of my trip to Yuma, AZ, last year. While in Yuma my friend took us to the outdoor mall there. It was August, mid-day, and, she claimed, 105 in the shade. My question now is, who the bloody blazes thought that an outdoor mall would be a good idea in one of the hottest places none to humankind.

Come on thime to share.

My personal "who thought this was a good idea" was a friends wedding that I went to... he held it in Clearfield Utah... half his friends live in Salt Lake the other half in Logan... so all of us had to drive at least 40 miles... in rush hour traffic, which from Logan to Clearfield isn't bad, but for those of us coming from Salt Lake it's like a LA freeway... which is a nice way of saying the guy in hiking gear walking on the side of the freeway was moving quicker than us... doing that for 40 miles sucks.
OK, so actually I have 2... the other, who thought that up is with the TRAX extension... if a train has to queu to enter Salt Lake Central they will block the intersection that is used for every bus line that comes in or out of Salt Lake Central (yeah, really good planning there).

Two friends of mine who scheduled their wedding in December.

In Michigan.

Outdoors.

While the bride was seven months pregnant with twins.

Later when the groom was bemoaning to me about having to shovel snow off his altar, I reminded him that it was their decision, and he said something to the effect of "screw your logic".

I want to know what brilliant civil engineer designed the intersection I go through every day that has traffic coming from 5 different directions, only 2 of which have a stop sign. That I haven't seen an accident in 2 years of going through there just astounds me.

Something like this, if this makes sense.

Then there's train tracks (not actually used, most of the time, though) that run from the right side, across the intersection and then along the diagonal. Picture the diagonal as the tracks, and there can be traffic coming (and going) from either side (hence the 5 different directions). There's also a convenience store on the other side right about where they all come together. In the mornings, I go slightly out of my way to avoid this, but in the afternoon it's actually easier to go through this mess (I come from the bottom and then go across and down the right side of the tracks. And I have a stop sign. And unless someone's coming out of the convenience store I don't have to worry about what's going on to my right.

I have a new "What genius?"

Flashing yellow arrows. You know when you get the green arrow to turn left (here in the US), then it goes to solid green meaning those who are turning must yeild to on coming traffic. Well not the in the city my mom works for (she is the secretary for the PD's traffic department). Now, if there are enough cars in the turning pocket, you get a green arrow, which then goes to a yellow arrow for 2 seconds, and then to a flashing yellow arrow for the rest of the light cycle, before going to red. If there are not enouhg cars it goes straight to flashing yellow, which makes people think they have some how missed the green arrow. So now these idiots think "Oh no! It's going to be red soon! I must gun it to make the light." The only problem is that when the left arrow goes to flashing yellow, the cars going straight get the green. And when left turining idiot makes their ill advised turn, they do so right into on coming traffic. So far there have been more than 20 accidents caused by these lights. Thankfully none of them have been fatal.

What Genius...

Put uniformed people out on the streets to enforce certain laws and deal with Anti Social Behaviour by any age group, remove alcohol from those who are drunk/in certain geographical areas/supplying to under 18/are under 18, will detain (but can't use force to do so) with nothing to defend themselves or others and have people in other parts of the country who do EXACTLY THE SAME JOB who do have that kit and other powers...

Anyone want to join me in my job? :D
