I've seen a lot of posts on this board talking about those rare occasions when you get to praise a customer for stepping up, but I've got a story as a customer about a couple of guys that really went above and beyond.
I'm a comic book geek, first of all, and like a lot of comic geeks, I have my preffered shop where I'm a regular customer. I've been going to the same shop almost every week for over six years now, and I've gotten to be quite friendly with many of the employees.
Last Thursday, I was taking my girlfriend to the shop with me. As we were walking through the parking lot, she miscalculated the height of a high curb, tripped, and landed really hard on her ankle. She couldn't stand on her leg and, in a few minutes, the heat started to make her dizzy. (This is southern Louisiana in the middle of a drought heat, friends.) I managed to get her onto my shoulder and helped her into the shop. The owner (J) and one of the employees (P), seeing her predicament, immediately came to help. While P ran to a restaurant next door to ask for some ice, J got a chair and a pillow to elevate her foot, and when P got back with the bag of ice ice, J grabbed an old t-shirt he hadn't been able to sell, wrapped the ice with it so it wouldn't be too cold on her skin, and told her to keep it. They let us stay in the store, blocking a big display of gaming merchandise, until she felt ready to leave, and they watched her while I ran off to get my car and bring it up to the door for her.
I went back to the store on Saturday to thank the guys for their help and tell them how my girlfriend was doing (a bad sprain, but thankfully she didn't break anything). P joked that they just didn't want to get sued, and there may be a grain of truth in that, but I'd like to think they know me well enough to know I'd never do that to them. At any rate, they really bought a hell of a lot of customer loyalty from me that day.
