To give you a short version of the problem:

Daughter was working for a coffee shop, the manager lied to the owner and got daughter fired (owner has admitted that manager lied to him) According to our state labor law owner has 72 hours to pay all hours owed. This made paycheck due to her by June 20th. She received check in the mail on June 21st but was shorted 27 hours. She was told that she had to wait until 30 days after she started for her training hours. That check should have been to her by July 5th. When she did not receive check we started calling him at least three times a week to find out about her check. Last thursday July 17th I told him that he had until today July 24th to get her check to her or I was going to the state labor board. Yesterday she got an unsigned check. He will not return calls to either of us. The bank will not cash the check since it is unsigned. What would you do?

Simple, go to the labor board. He will get nailed to the wall for this as he damn well should. He is trying to take advantage of your daughter and will do it to other people if you don't stand up to him. You also need to do this so your daughter learns early not to let asshole employers/people walk all over her.

You've already answered your own question: Call the labor board. And don't wait, do it now. Delaying will make you look like you won't carry through on your threats, so if you have to deal with this ass again, he'll know he doesn't have to take you seriously.

I contacted the Labor Board. The told me that since he sent her an unsigned check to call the sheriff's office in the county where his head quarters are.

I called them and they told me to contact him, tell him that I was on my way to his office to get the check signed, if he signed it fine all was over. If he refused to sign it then to come down to the courthouse and swear out a warrant for him issuing her a bad check.

I called his office and told them I was on my way to get the check signed. He was out of the office in a meeting, but he meet us there after the meeting to sign the check. We got directions to the nearest branch of the bank the check was drawn on, went there and cashed the check before he had a chance to put a stop payment on it.

Personally, I'd follow-up with the labor board with dates, times etc of everything that happens and turn it over to them and ask them to do something about the situation. It sounds like he broke the law, and if so, he needs to pay for it.

Of course, I'm a vindictive little bastard.
