I'm hanging out on the porch with the folks, and I happened to walk out there just as they were evidently discussing me having talked to my dad on the phone earlier today. My dad says something like "AH could melt butter over the phone" (Down, pervs! Down! He didn't mean it like THAT! *slaps with rolled-up newspaper*) and when I went "hwuah?" my mom says that I have a very nice voice when speaking on the phone.
To which I again went "hwuah?" I've had them tell me this kind of thing before, and I think - don't remember - I may have had a few other folks say similar things in the past. Which I personally find kind of odd. Sure, I'm polite, but I don't think my voice is anything all that exciting - if anything, I think it sounds kind of cartoonish. But that's just me. :headscratch:
Anyone else (especially y'all that work on the phone) ever experience anything like that?

I've gotten a lot of comments about my phone voice too. Most were from my grandmothers friends. but a few from my brothers female friends were a little weird.

Yeah, I get it all the time.
My Dad had a beautiful phone voice and I inherited it from him.
My Dad was well known in the field offices for his phone voice. Once a secretary from another office had to call him on a weekend. My Mother answered and she identified herself, but before she asked to speak to my Father, she told my Mother, and I quote:
"I have no idea what your husband looks like, honey, but he's got a voice that could melt butter in an icebox. Every woman in our office swoons when he calls."
My Mother thought this was heee-larious.
I inherited his voice. Mine is obviously female---though deep for a girl---but I have the same smooth velvety texture to my voice, which is why I am so good at phone work. People love my voice and I get compliments on it all the time at work. I also get hit on a lot by drunken morons who like to tell me how sexy I sound.

Oh yeah, I got a TON of compliments when I worked the phones. It's hilarious, because my normal voice is like an excited 12 year old girl or what most people think a puppy would sound like. But when I'm on the phone, I'm told I could/should do sex hot lines.

Me too. The worst part is I have to drop my voice by several octaves while I'm at work, then I get told I sound like a SEXY 12 year old! GAH!
:runaway:
Many people swear up and down that I sound like my mom. I want to hit every one of them who say that.
My mom has an "outdoor" voice. She is VERY boisterous and loud. Her voice carries and resonates easily. It's not an irritating sounding voice, it's just that she's SO damn loud and can't whisper or even be quiet. My dad thinks she's starting to lose her hearing a little bit, but does admit that she never used to be that loud until they were married and she became bossy. I think it's part of my mother's personal mantra.....she's loud, large and in charge.
I have an "indoor" voice. I can be loud and obnoxious while intoxicated or extremely excited or angry, but most of the time, I speak somewhat quietly. Loud enough to hear, but not attracting attention. My voice is deeper than my mother's. But then again, phones are phones, right?
My boyfriend also has an outdoor voice. Especially when he's on the phone. I hate to say it, but I've been embarrassed while he's been on his phone almost yelling as loud as he can, and he's only talking!

I *do* sound like my mom. Just...much lower. ><
My Operator Voice kicks in whenever I so much as touch a phone. Even if I'm not at work. The phone messes with me now. I went to order pizza once and out of habit dialed the emergency security dispatch line of one of the local security companies that we deal with across several accounts. Their number is burned into my mind.
It was a rather confusing moment for both of us. Because I didn't realize I'd done it either for a second. -.-
I don't know if my normal voice is as allegedly mesmerizing as my operator voice though.

Yes, all the time, both when I was DJing and when I did phone work. Apparently I have quite a voice, both on the phone and in person. It's just on the phone (or on the radio) people notice it more because that is the only part of you people are experiencing.
