it has been anounced in the news all over that WB is delaying the openning of the next Harry Potter movie Half Blood Prince from Nov 21 2008 to July 17 2009

one reason given is thaT Daniel Radcliffe is appearing nude in a stage play around the same time

another reason is that some film called Twilight by steven meyers would go better in the Nov time slot

both reasons seem to be a little dodgy to me esp after the openning date has been announced now for like 9 months. this also delays the Deadly Hallows movies too

That's what I heard. I was looking forward to seeing it this year too. :(

The reason I heard (and actually seems credible) is that the film was somewhat delayed by the WGA strike last winter, and that it's not QUITE ready. But it's close. Also, they feel the movie would compete better in the summer box office than the winter.

There's a HUGE buzz about Twilight, but I don't know much about it. Something about vampires.

The play that Daniel Radcliffe is appearing in on Broadway is Equus a drama by Peter Schaffer (one of the finest playwrights of the late 20th century, btw. He also wrote Amadeus). Radcliffe was in Equus on the West End (London's version of Broadway) when the last Harry Potter movie came out, so I don't believe that would be the cause of the delay. If nothing else, it would help sell tickets to both occasions.

More info about Equus here: http://www.playbill.com/events/event_detail/13719.html

On a side note, the Broadway producers are just asking for trouble with this one. Tons of screaming young fans are going to turn out to see Radcliffe in this, and Equus is definitely adult material. Beyond the nudity...well, it's just a very disturbing piece of dramatic literature.

Either way, this newest HP movie appears to be yet another victim of the WGA strikes and greedy producers.

What's the main difference between Daniel in HP and Daniel in Equus? While Harry Potter is getting edited, In Equus, he's un-cut. ;)

*sobs uncontrollably*

Stupid WB... I'm pretty sure it's all about money. They think they'll make more money with a summer release than a Thanksgiving release.

Twilight (a movie based off the Twilight book series by Stephanie Meyer - if you're into vampires, werewolves, and romance, it's a MUST READ) was slated to come out at the end of December (vs HBP coming out at the end of November). I really doubt there would have been a big competition since there's a month between the releases.

*sighs*

Actually, I just read the news. Twilight, slotted to come out 12-12-08, is now coming out 11-21-08. I am SOOOOOO there. I'm more excited about this movie than the HP movie, for the simple fact I havent gotten to see the last two movies yet. Yes I've read all the books, but I just haven't had a chance to watch movies four and five.

I heard that the writers strike meant WB had no blockbusters for next summer, so they needed HP then.

Nah, IMO the truth is that WB made so much with Batman that their numbers are going to look great this year regardless so they're pushing the last three Harry Poter into the next year because they know that those will also bring in cash helping out next year (2009) incase they don't have any great releases.

It's a money game.

I went to see The Mummy 3 last week and saw the trailer (not a teaser, an actual trailer) for HBP and was so excited. Now, I'm pissed. Stupid freakin Warner Bros.

I don't want to wait!
