Pet Died

My beloved pet rat misty died today and I'm devastated. I know some people hate rats,but I loved her just like any pet owner loves their pet. Today has been one of the hardest days for me and I just have a horrible empty feeling inside. So someone please send a hug me way I really need one.:(

I know how it feels to lose a pet. I've had cats all my life, and sadly, they don't live forever. :(

I had to put my cat to sleep last November, and I know how hard it is. Sometimes I still "see" her in the shadows out of the corner of my eye. It was months before I could for an entire day without crying, I missed her so much. I even failed one of my fall semester classes, because I would wake up in the mornings and just give up on going out.

I recently took a summer sociology class about death and dying, and one of my assignments was to write about a recent experience with death. I wrote about Daphne. It's very painful and difficult to do, but writing really helps. When you write your feelings out, you can realize things that you didn't even know you felt...it's hard to describe.

It can be such a lonely experience to lose a pet, because so many people don't understand what it's like to see your pets as family members. Be judicious about who you tell. Some people are total, unmitigated assholes who will not even make any attempt to understand your grief, and you don't need to deal with that right now. Don't let people feed you bullshit lines like "it was just a rat" or "go get another one."

I had two pet rats as a child, Charlie and Oscar
they were beautiful pets and I loved them. They had their own individual personalities and were so intelligent, they used to do tricks and sit on my sholders, climb up and down the piano keys wondering were the sounds were coming from

I am sorry to hear about Misty, Think Blue. I had to have my cat Higgins put to sleep last summer and it still tears me up when I think about him, even now. Focus on the fact that you gave Misty the best life she could have had, and that she was deeply loved, right up to the end.

Thanks guys I feel slightly better. It's hard to look at the place where her cage used to be and looking at her toys chokes me up, but I know she is in a better place now and she is fully healthy again. So thank you for the warm thoughts it has helped me alot.
