So last month, I forgot ALL about my car payment until two days before it was due. Because the date I remembered fell on a Friday and the bill was due on Saturday, the quickest payment I could do was on Monday. I made the payment and called Customer Care the very next morning and asked if that would send me into default/give me late fees.
Lady said 'No' and we left it at that.
Today we're going over our bills to see if we're going to be overdrawn so's to take that money out of savings (because I don't trust my bank as it overdrew me last month and I HAD money in savings... and I have overdraft protection --my ass-- ). The day I got my bill, I set up online payment to go through today for the exact amount. Hubby told me we'd be overdrafted. We went over his math and my math and I reminded him our exact payment has already been accounted for and being 'held off' as its processing.
He said "well, its off by five cents, love."
I agreed as I remember the payment being made of $275.58, not $275.53. So he goes get the bill and I continue hashing out the numbers when he tells me, nope. I'm wrong. I owe $286.36, so I'll be owing TFS.
I take the bill and read it in full (which, yes, it was my fault that I simply skimmed over it) and LO AND BEHOLD the fuckers are charging me a late fee of $13.78.
In fact it reads like this:
Payment due: 8/28/08
Current payment due: $275.58
Past Due amount: $0.00
Late Charges: $13.78
Misc. Charges: $0.00
Total amount due: $289.36.
To avoid late charge of $13.78 your payment must be received before 9/08/09.
So I pull up the statement of last month. Its the exact same info minus the late charges and the disclaimer reads:
To avoid a late charge of $13.78 your payment must be received before 8/08/08.
(Bank was posted as 7/29/08 to boot.)
WTF?
>.<
And its so hard to get a hold of TFS when my work schedule is the SAME as theirs. Seriously, I have to like, call during my breaks and 15 minutes isn't enough to resolve shit like this sometimes. Last time I had something like this, I was ten minutes late for lunch. ugh.
Bastages.
