We have pressure washers cleaning our buildings and the sidewalks this week (and last). Well, today they decided to use our water to wash other buildings, not cool. My wife went out and ripped them a new one.

But, then she noticed that the hose w ehad in our front was missing. She asked about it. They said that they didn't think it was useable anymore so they threw it out.

WHAT??

The metal ring on the end was cut off but we still used it often to water the plants in the front and side.

My wife told them to bring it back and if it isn't back by the time I get home we're calling the police to report as stolen.

Do you pay these people to wash the buildings? I'd dock their pay and make them buy you a whole new hose.

I have a hose similar; the metal ring had been cut off by a previous tenant so The SO and I went out and bought one of those hose head inserts that actually go inside the hose and a ring to bind it all together. Leaks a little but really, who cares? We just use it to clean off the padio when the tree on it drops leaves.

The association pays them, not us. :(

As for the hose, we just turn off the tap when we don't use it.

Wait, is this the same HOA that let people park in your yard?

I read that as new house at first.

Not on our yard but on the common yard area, yes.

I spoke to them. They claim they didn't throw it out, they say that they took it and put it aside and someone else took it.

Uh-huh. I wonder why all these contractors that the HOA hires damages our home & things?

They ripped out the (small) border fence that we had along our garden, broke some of the wooden one...

I told him I wanted it back tonight, he said if it wasn't tonight then it would "definately be tomorrow". if not, I'm calling the police and reporting it stolen.

Good; report away. The guy knew it wasn't his and I know TONS of people who have hoses missing the metal ring on the end; they just use the hose for the same reasons you do (watering plants) or to Syphon gas.

And before you guys get mad about Syphoning gas; how else do you get the extra gas out of the lawn tractor (mower) before putting it up for winter? Gas goes bad after a few months and will gum up the works if you leave it to sit for months on end.

Sounds to me like you need to have a chat with your HOA. If they're going to hire the cheapest contractors out there, they need to be willing to pay for the consequences.

I left gasoline in my lawn mower (which lives under the porch) last winter. At the time, I was going to cut the grass one last time before it got cold. That didn't happen, but nothing got gummed up. A bit difficult to start, but not too surprising, since it is over 15 years old. 2006 was another story--rather than drain the tank, I cut the grass, then took the mower down to my parents to finish it. This year, I'll probably siphon the gas out...and put it in the car.

Getting back on topic, it sounds like the HOA hired whoever was cheap...and that contractor is an idiot.

They claim they didn't throw it out, they say that they took it and put it aside and someone else took it.

They were still the parties responsible for YOUR hose no longer being YOUR hose. Therefore, whether they lost it, threw it away, damaged it, gave it away, or left it where someone who did not have a rightful claim to it could snake it. So THEY need to replace it. No excuses.

I sent the "president" and the "assisstant" an email. The "president" got back to me and addressed other issues (like how our irresponsible pit-bull owner next door was hired as part of the team) but didn't mention the hose.

Last night I told them I wanted it back last night. They said if it wasn't then, it would be replaced today.

They're gone for the day and no hose. I guess it is time to call the police and report it stolen.

I also put out my garbage (in our parking lot) earlier. The above mentioned neighbor was parked two spaces down. I noticed immediately after she left it was knocked over and scratched / dented as if it was hit by a car.

Edit: I don't want to screw over the entire community so I'll wait until the work is done then I'll call the police and report it stolen.

I spoke to BSO (sherrif's office) last night. There is nothing *I* can do since they are contractors hired by the HOA. I emailed the HOA and they asked for proof that we ha a hose out there. Yeah, we take pictures of a garden hose.

The guys did admit to taking it, that should be enough.

What?!!! How are you going to prove you had a hose, if there's no hose there?!! You're HOA is made up of morons.

I'd keep calling the president of the HOA at work and at home demanding your hose. They owe it to you. It's NOT harrassment to demand that which you are owed.

Buy a new hose, and send a bill for the price of the hose to the HOA.
