I hate my career. I hate working in retail. I have been in it for over 13 years and I have had it.
I haven't been home much for the past three weeks. Today is the first FULL day off I have had in those same three weeks.

My baking class is going so well. I absolutely love it and I am pretty damn good at it. I found myself actually knowing what the chef was talking about when he got a little technical (about boiling sugar). Some others in the class didn't understand and asked him to explain it better. I found myself answering for them in my head.
So, I could possibly have a shot at this.

The problem? Money. The school will cost about $15,000 a year. I would need to go for four years to get my Associate's and Bachelor's degrees. Which is what I would want to do.

We can't afford for me to go full time without working. The schedule for full-timers is grueling, there would be no time for working.

Part-time is doable, a little. Part-time is 6am till 5:30pm on Saturdays and one or two nights a week, plus homework, projects, etc.

So I was hoping to waitress while going back to school. No restaurant is going to hire me when I couldn't work Friday nights and couldn't possibly get to work till 6:30-7:00 on Saturdays.

This sucks. I need to get out of retail. This has got to be the last holiday season I work in retail or you all will be writing to me in a sanitarium.

This job is killing me.
I wish I never took the promotion.

I'm sorry. I hope you can find something better. Have you thought about bartending or waitressing at a bar/restaurant? Their busiest times would be at night so they would need you later anyways. And you'd make good tips too.

have you thought about temping? When I was waiting to graduate, I knew I was only going to need employment for a few months and didnt want to waste my time in retail anymore

plus I HATED my job and was really angry and bitter about customers.

at my temping agency I could choose from office temping (answering phones, filling in for receptionsists, typing stuff like that)

or factory temping, thats What I ended up doing because it was always monday to friday 8-4pm and I could state if I wasnt able to work certain days and times. Or you can do nightshift, I did a couple of them just because it suited me and WOW was it nice to avoid people (see what retail can do to some people..)

it got me away from customers ( but not physco co-workers unfortuntely) for a few months so I finally got a break.

and yes I agree, retail SUCKS it is the lamest job in the world! I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever go back. A decade is more than enough for me, heck im my current job I dont deal with customers persay and some people are still sucky as can be. At least now I can answer back!

hooray for venting!
