I didn't get a chance to move this from the old boards, so I'll just give a recap of what's been going on with me as I haven't shared much lately.
Last time I mentioned anything, we were waiting for my mom to hear back about her Disability claim. She was hopsitalized for a week back in February w/what turned out to be a severe upper respiratory infection as well as a depleted immune system (she had worked herself into exhaustion) and spent the next several weeks homebound trying to recover her strength. So far, she has all except for her left leg, which still hasn't bounced back and probably won't in part of the nerve damage from surgery several years ago.
Well, last month she heard back from social security and was denied disability. Not only is my mom overweight, but also has Type 2 Diabetes and high blood pressure. She had a couple of light heart attacks 3 years ago and has cholesterol problems as well. Add to that the arthirtis in her lower spine and left leg, and nerve damage left from back surgery in 1998 when the sciatic nerve had to be severed, she's not able to go back to work now.
Then we heard back from social services about Medicaid and she had been denied. They did sent a couple of vouchers for her to use to get past medical bills caught up, but that was all.
Then we heard back from SSI, which is a bit different from disability and she was approved for a monthly check. It's not as much as what she would have drawn off disability, but it's better than nothing and when she turns 65 (in 7 more years) she can transfer over to full social security.
So we're now able to get some bills caught up that we've been letting slide and have that pretty much in check now. (YAY us)
And, I now have another laptop. She's not new (she's previously owned) but we were given such a good deal, I really would have kicked my own ass if I had passed it up.
She's a Dell Inspiron 2200 and has a dual burner (burns DVD's and CD's) and wireless networking built-in. Windows XP home edition (SP2) and plenty of software on her already. My brother got some of the online stuff I use downloaded already, as I haven't had much time to spend w/her as I would like. He'll really have a cow when I take some more of my stuff with me to my boyfriend's house and she goes too (and I'll talk about him in a separate post.)
I'm still going to look into getting Tinkerbelle fixed (the old Toshiba satellite) and that way my brother won't be without a laptop. God only knows what he'll rename her - I suspect Cartman (I don't know whether to laugh or cry over that one.) He doens't like the name I picked out for the new one (Daphne) but that's too bad.
So things are moving right along now . . . I'll talk about my love life in another post (that is if anyone can stand it right now.):p
