View Full Version : He didn't scam us...as such

So I don't know if this would be a morons in management thing because the supervisor in question, whom I shall call L. didn't catch on until I explained it to her a moment later. And the customer wasn't sucky to us as such, but I'll leave it to you to decide.

As it happens about 80% of our store is still in need of a massive price change, which for some reason no one has gotten around to doing. (I offer but at this point I'm basically just a body behind a cash register)

This guy paid 2.35 for a roll of tape and the price tag said 1.99. No problem, happens all the time. So L. refunds him the difference and asks if she can keep the original receipt.

"Well actually I need it for petty cash, so I need to keep it."

I keep my mouth shut. I could have easily pointed out that he gets the return receipt which shows the amount he was refunded, so that he can show his petty cash person how much to actually refund him. I figured L. would do her job and as I've all ready been lectured about "minding my own business" I just let it slide.

So the customer takes the original receipt. Even though he didn't actually pay full price for the product because we refunded him the difference, he's still going to get the full price from his own place of employement.

Like I said, he didn't actually scam us, but when I pointed this out to L. I explained that he basically scammed his own job.

He might not be a scammer. I think he just didn't think it through, like L. Scamming 50 cents is kind of petty. Now if it was a really expensive thing, then yeah. OH, I hope he doesn't get any ideas!

Scamming 50 cents is kind of petty.

Especially if you scam it from petty cash.
