This happened to me last week. Now, I go to OSU, not the most liberal of colleges, not the most conservative either. It was around 9 AM and I was pulling into the parking lot. Now, I listen to music when I drive, as many do. I do have a bad habit of listening to it really loudly with my windows open.
It so happens that on this particular day, I pull in to the not so dulcet tones of E Nomine's Vater Unser. German techno/industrial. I pulled into the parking space I found as this line is said quite loudly 'Dein ist das Reich und die Kraft und die Ehrlichkeit, in Endlichkeit, amen.' This is in fact, part of the Lord's Prayer in German.
As I get out of my car, a young man yells at me "You shouldn't listen to Nazi crap like that!" or something to that effect.
I blinked, and after realizing what he was talking about, practically broke down laughing.
Then, while trying not to show my amusement, I had to explain to him what that actually meant. Turns out he heard 'Dein ist das Reich', and assumed.
And we all know what happens when you assume...
