Yeah - he called again. Of course, I got him.

Thankfully, this was a domain that he had moved to Another_Company. I managed to transfer him, but not after he had threatened me with a lawyer 3 times. Oh well - at least this encounter was nowhere near as bad as before.

What I discovered, however, was that while he had created a hosting account with the other company, he had attempted to transfer his domain AFTER it expired.

Oops. He shouldn't have done that. :rolleyes:

His domain is now in redemption with the registrar. It has been for some time. The registrar charges a hefty fee to get it out of redemption, however, after a few weeks, they do eventually release it to the public.

Where a friend of mine will be waiting to order it for like 2 bucks. :D

oo and then once your friend has the domain name, you get to explain the fun concept of supply and demand:wave: -if he wants his precious domain back since it's in really short supply.....I think the going price for a limited edition-one of a kind domain is around 5-10 grand maybe...........:devil:

Ahhh, makes me nostalgic for the heady days of "cyber squatting". The only people not mad about it were the people smart enough to register sites like "mcdonalds.com" or "hallmark.com" way back in the day and then get a big payday. I'm mad I missed out on it...

The slightly evil part of me (:devil: ) would also get as many friends, relatives and casual aquantainces as possible to visit the site after you buy it. That way, you can also "casually" inform him of all the traffic to "his" site that he's missed out on.

Has happened to us quite a couple of times, specially when the customer is adamant that we're thieving bast**** for the comission we charge for registering and decide to register themselves, and then when expiration time comes, they call to ask why theyr page is down, when they're informed that the domain expired and they should've renewed it, they ALWAYS go ballistic about it being our duty, blah blah blah.

The registering fee doesn't seems to steep to them then, but it's too late. more times than not they lose the domain and there is nothing we can or will do about it.

They're %100 unable to comprehend the difference between domain registering, DNS hosting, and web page hosting. Sigh

Best case was a local bed manufacturer, who lost his domain in this manner and it was purchased by a dating service... no porn, nothing wrong, just plain old dating, the guy called us indignated that his domain was being used for pornographic sites and that he'd sue us to hell and back....

It came to be a local joke amongst the tech dept that he should be glad, since maybe many of the couples who got together on the dating system could opt to use his brand of beds to consumate....

I'm still surprised "she-is-here.com" (the site of the Ring/Ringu ARG which was viral marketing for "The Ring Two") wasn't more expensive after DreamWorks let their registration for it lapse.

Luckily, a Ring fan snapped it up and brought the original site back. :)
