My daughter went to IU until this year and had been there all weekend visiting her boyfriend. She was on her way back to Indianapolis to her class at IUPUI and called to tell me about the fire. She used to go to that pet store to visit the puppies. She was worried about the big dog and the cat who lived in the store. I just caught part of it on the news and it sounded like the dog didn't make it out. (BTW I knew you were in Indiana, but didn't realize until this thread that you were in Bloomington. Beautiful town and beautiful campus.)

That picture of the rescued puppy is the saddest thing! Poor babies. I'm glad the managed to at least save some of them.
A few years ago the Petco near Ex's old apartment exploded. I was at work and he called me to tell me about it. (Nearby road construction hit a gas line or something.) IIRC, they actually managed to save the majority of the animals (mostly rodents, small birds and maybe some lizards; no dogs or cats at Petco) and even most of the fish.

The big saint Bernard Deliah died a few months back. They had a chinese crested dog that lived in the store. It passed away in the fire as well as (they believed) the store cats.
One of the local animal shelters caught fire in early spring 2005. Only a few dogs survived.
It was especially sad for my friend Janelle, because she was in the process of moving to her own place and just waiting for the chance to adopt this one cat she'd been wanting for several months. Since she used to work at the shelter in high school and was still volunteering, she knew she'd get the cat when she was able to. That cat was one of the cats who died :(

So this morning deliah's pet shop released a statement:
http://www.delilahspetshop.com/
they only were able to save 12 animals.Three cats and nine dogs. They had 25 or more animals in the shop. The newspaper said that animal control was on call to remove the dead animals after the collapsed roof is removed.:cry::cry::cry::cry:
