This happened a couple of days ago, it left me in total shock.

I was with my daughter at the library, and some woman that I've never talked to before asked if she could use my cell phone. I'd seen her before, but that doesn't mean anything, because I see a lot of people there.

I just replied that I only let people use it if it's for an emergency (like being stuck on the highway). She was in the middle of a library with a phone at every turn. She gave me this  look, and I had to repeat myself. She still was like :headscratch: So I just had to look at her and say "No". She started to whine, so I walked away.

She didn't look poor, or deficient in any way, except for the obvious lack of social awareness.

I've lent my phone a few times to people I didn't know, but it was usually under such circumstances as the train was broken down and another passenger needed to call in to work, or similar urgencies.

I've only been asked once, and it was an 8-10 year old at a huge car show and he couldn't find his mom and wanted to call her.

Not a problem at all.

I'll let people sometimes use mine if thier car is broken down or something...but this girl left her keys in her car and asked if I could use my phone...I saw she was playing with her own cell in her hand so I said "no...this is my friends phone and he goes postal if someone uses his phone and his minutes are used up." The girl gets all huffy and says "Well then I guess I'll just have to use MY minutes then." ( yeah no shit shirlock!) So she calls her frined and he comes over...I overhear her saying "I asked that girl over there to use her phone but she said no cuz it was her friends and she said her friend trips out if someone uses his phone that he don't really know its not like I was gonna stay on that long..." Her friend replys loudly....."so it was expected to use YOUR minutes??! Thats f*cked up!" (well yeah....your phone your minutes.)

She was mad because she had to use her own minutes on her own phone? Well duh! I can't believe she had the nerve to ask for your phone with hers in her hand, and then to get huffy about it, that's crazy IMO! It'd be different if the cell phone had been in the car that she got locked out of, but in this case, she is making herself look stupid, LOL!

To the OP, did the women say why she needed to use a phone. It didn't sound like an emergency, so why didn't she just go to a library phone?

Probably because she would have to use her own money to pay for the call is my guess. Why use your money when you can have someone else pay for it?

She wanted to use your phone, even though you didn't know her, and for all you knew, was going to just run off with it?

HELL NO!

We have homeless people (and not so homeless people) come up and expect to use our phone all the time. They get right pissy when I point out the pay phone down the corridor.... "but I dont got a quater"....

The guy that took the cake had his cellphone open and in his HAND and asked to use our phone...when I asked if there was anything wrong with his phone of if it was an emergancy he was like "no I just need to use it"

no can do buddy, go into a money making business, not a not-for-profit... every dollar counts.
