I had so much fun last year at the powerboat races (http://www.superboat.com/) being actually out on the water that I did it again this year. Once again, I was on the catamaran that was Turn 3 AND the starting line for the powerboat races, and though I had to get there Way Too Early in the morning for me, it was still an absolute blast.
Seriously, if ever you get the chance to go to powerboat races, the best seat you can possibly get is out on the water. The years I watched the races from land, they were very nice. And that's it. But to be right out there, in the midst of it, with those monsters screaming down the water, and then whipping around the boat we were on......WOW!!!! I remember many years ago while watching the Indy 500, right as the cars came off the pace lap and threw the hammer down as they started the actual race, the announce saying "Other sporting events begin....the Indy 500 EXPLODES!" Same idea here.....this is just insane.
Below is a picture. See all the powerboats? Awesome. See the catamaran they are all roaring past? Yeah. THAT was my seat. With beer. And food. And topless women. (Though I wish we would have had more good-looking and young women.....I thought for sure that bingo was about to start any moment.) Seriously. Where's the flaw in that Friday?

The people at Fury (http://www.furycat.com/key-west/boat-races.htm) were so awesome. We were out with Captain Chuck, just like last year, and just like last year, he was hilarious. "We are actually part of the race course, so if you see the Captain going over the side, you might want to follow." Because, you know, these powerboats can and do flip and get out of control, and there are no safety nets. And Captain Chuck was so right when he said that we had the third best seats possible, with the best being IN one of the powerboats, and the second best being in one of the helicopters following them.
Not bad for a Friday off, huh?
MAN there are times I love living here!
And yes, now you may all commence in being jealous.
