I got my tattoo! 2 hours yesterday, some of the lines not as straight as the tattooist would have liked cause sometimes I couldn't help but flinch. Worst bits were- the start- ow. The bits up near my neck- ow. And the bits he went over again because they'd been missed first time round- really ow, as the skin was already inflamed.

Feels like the worst sunburn ever right now, but is well worth it, absolutely gorgeous.
Pics later! The only pics I have right now are of it behind clingfilm, oozing slightly.

OK, Pics, and LOTS OF THEM.

PICS!
First two pics are only an hour or so after being tattooed. so it's still leaking ink and is covered in clingfilm

These two were taken today, after removing clingfilm and cleaning the tattoo. You cna just see the wobbliness brought about from my flinching, but those bits will be filled in black in the new year after I've healed.

I can tell you know, I;ve caught the bug! I will be getting more! I just love it. The tattooist is so impressive- that design came about from me handing him a couple of bits of scrap paper and mumbling 'I can't really draw but I want something like this.'

Thanks very much- I am impressed, but feeling very drained. it took two hours, and was my first tattoo.

May I strongly reccomend anyone who happens to be in my country and city and wants a tatt to go to Custom Art Tattoos.

I hate to be a prick and threadjack, but does anyone have a general idea, on average, how much a tatoo costs? I'm talking a relatively small one, here, but I'm saving up to have dogtags with some personal information about my late grandfather put on my forearm, and I'd like to know how much I should expect to pay.

Thanks, and by the way: Beautiful ink! :grats::yourock::grats::yourock::salute:

Where are you based? In the UK standard cost is around £50 an hour for larger work (more in London) or £30 base cost for a small one.

I'm in PA.

US state, there.

Thanks for the help, though, I'll see if I can find a rough estimate of the conversion to US$.

That's nice. I'm always impressed by a great tattoo. I don't think I'd ever get one myself, though.

I used to work with a girl who had the cutout shapes of a violin tattooed on her back. Went right along the curves of her back, really cool. She was a musician (also owned two iguanas named Mozart and Trent [as in Reznor, of Nine Inch Nails]).

It's hard to say, but you said it would be a small one? I'd expect AT LEAST $60-$100 as a safe bet. Best to ring round some tattooists, but don't go for the cheapest! It's on your skin permanently, go for the one with the best portfolio etc. Ask around.

I know some people consider it rude, but when you see someone with particularly good ink, ask them where they got it done.

Two hours of work- mine cost £100, around $200.

Wow...I don't think I could sit there that long to have it done.

Oh, wow, that is gorgeous!

The worst part about getting mine was coloring it, felt like he had a safety pin jabbed half an inch into my skin and was dragging it around. *shudder*

I'm planning on getting a vine that winds from my right ankle to my left shoulder when I get a job that pays better.

GingerBiscuit

well, I figured getting this done was the worst possible one, anything else (apart from possibly colouring it) has got to be better, right? It's still tender, but I can touch it now.

Damn, that's hot, nice, but just out of curiosity, what was with the cling wrap?

I'm in PA.

US state, there.

I paid for a couple of friends of mine to get one done when we were down in Orlando Fl. from memory it was somewhere between $20 and $40 each, it was a feather about 10" long, I'm not sure what it'd be up in PA.

many artists, especially in the UK, use a clingfilm dressing on a new tattoo, to prevent staining from the leaking ink and to stop irritation of the new tattoo. It was very handy- stopped my new tattoo rubbing against my bedsheets.

Hmm, that makes sense, I'd just never seen it before in the US or Australia.

If you want writting, it may not be that small. Price is going to depend on the local shop but I'm going to agree with the "don't go cheap" thing. You probably won't be paying less that 50-75 for what you're thinking though it may be much more than that.

And GingerBiscuit, that is a gorgeous tattoo!

It started itching and scabbing over about an hour ago. Onion skin scabs, like sunburn peeling. I'm not allowed to scratch! If I scratch, it'll go all patchy! I don't want it to be patchy!

Oh, and btw- happy birthday to me- in one hour and 3 minutes I will be 23 years old to the minute.

Ah, the body. The most unforgiving canvas. I'm always very impressed by skilled tattoo artists. If you screw up, there's no going back.

DUN DUN DUN!

I'd love to get a tattoo, but I have no idea what I'd get.

That's a very elaborate piece for your first time--bravo! I'm also really impressed by the fact that all of that work was done in two hours. My artist tends to take her time, so something that size and complexity would take about 3 hours or so. Will it be filled in with colour?

I can't wait to get mine started at Chirstmastime! :D:D:D:D

Around here, the cost is about $100-120/hour at a decent shop. For something that sized, the shop will probably charge you for an hours work.

I'm debateing. I know that the thicker lines will be filled in, with black or possibly purple, but I think I might leave the rest, as it's so attractive how it is. It was originally going to have the colours done then, I just couldn't habdle any more tattooing.

WOW. That is some seriously stunning, slinkerific, AMAZING ink there.

I'm getting my second tat later this month. Best part is that I'm trading in my 360(that my boss gave me for free) for the tat. Not a single penny out of my pocket.

heh. Girls NEVER like to be told people think they're older...

It's stopped itching so much now. I really like it, I can't stop looking at it. I have set up an arrangement with mirrors so I can.
